Secret Asset in good shape for Krisflyer Sprint

Secret Asset had his first sighter of Kranji Racecourse yesterday in preparation for the Krisflyer International Sprint in Singapore tomorrow.

Jane Chapple-Hyam's grey could only finish eighth to Ortensia in the Al Quoz sprint at Meydan Racecourse in March but is fancied by his trainer to run better having drawn the rail in Thursday's post-position draw.

The gelding cantered gently over 1,400 metres on the polytrack ahead of his clash with eight rivals in the Group 1 contest, run over 1,200 metres.

"We didn't overcook him, he's not gone over the top as all his training has already been done at home," Chapple-Hyam said. "We're just here to keep him ticking over and not let him fall away."

Ortensia is stabled at Chapple-Hyam's yard in Newmarket, England, but the two thoroughbreds do not train together as Ortensia's groom, Leah Gavranich, prefers to ride out earlier than Secret Asset would like.

Secret Asset endured a gruelling trip from Newmarket and had to take in stops in Copenhagen and Sharjah during a 27-hour journey door to door but has taken the travel in his stride.

Set to be ridden by George Baker, Secret Asset has won only once over 1,200 metres, from ten starts, but will enjoy the shortest route next to the rail and Chapple-Hyam was optimistic of a big run.

"The barrier No 1 sure is a bonus," she added.

"As he's normally quick out of the gates, he should be able to box seat and save as much ground as possible on the bend

"We can't be too far off the pace in such a race. We now just have to make sure we arrive on time."
