Saqib has his eye on the trophy

ABU DHABI // Saqib Ali, the UAE international, feels his own good form will count for nothing if his team, the UAE Exchange Centre, fail to win tonight's UBL Twenty20 final against Eurocon Alubond at the Zayed Stadium. The Pakistan-born all-rounder has been in superb form during the competition, scoring 300 in five games, including a stellar performance in the semi-final when he hit 80 not out and took three wickets in a resounding 72-run win over William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana.

"All that was done in the previous games will count for nothing if we can't put up a concentrated effort to win the final," said Ali. "My own form has been pretty good but this is the game that matters most for all of us. "It has been an excellent team effort that has taken us to the final. Everyone in the team has chipped in whether it be with the bat, ball or on the field." Ali, who is a key member of the 14-member squad that will head to Bermuda for the ICC Intercontinental Shield from July 5 to 8, has been in fine form since his knock of 141 against Bhutan and 93 not out with Afghanistan in the Asia Cup in Kuwait last month.

Lining up for Eurocon, who beat Nissan Al Masaood in their semi-final, is Naeemuddin Aslam, Ali's international teammate. [e-mail]
