Musabah Al Muhairi and Wayne Smith can do little wrong at Jebel Ali. The trainer-jockey duo again combined to land the feature on Friday, with Russian Rock repeating his victory of 12 months ago in the 1,000-metre prep for the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint, to be staged in two weeks. The same horse won both races last year and will surely be hard to beat again, having defied a penalty to defeat old rival Kilt Rock in style, showing great acceleration 300 metres out to settle matters in a few strides. "He loves Jebel Ali and it just really suits him," Smith said. "We will be back in two weeks to defend the crown in the big one." Dhruba Selvaratnam, who trains on the track, doubled his tally for the season with the stable jockey James Doyle aboard both Forjatt and Kessraa, who each won 1,400m handicaps. "It is nice to get a couple on the board after several near misses in recent weeks," Selvaratnam said. "The racing is so competitive now, it is never easy to win races." There were also two 1,600m handicaps with the second and with the final race on the card, providing the Satish Seemar-trained Kaiss the perfect opportunity to win his first race this season. Richard Mullen was in the saddle. Earlier on the card, Paul Hanagan partnered Qannaas to a second course and distance victory. The meeting opened with an 1,800m conditions race for Purebred Arabians and Sam Hitchcott was in the saddle on Borkan Al Zobair, who won to the delight of trainer Gill Duffield, who said: "We hoped this step up in trip would suit him and luckily it has."
