Jonny May cleared for England v Scotland

England wing Jonny May has been given the all-clear to play against Scotland in Saturday’s Calcutta Cup clash in Edinburgh.

The Gloucester back lasted just nine minutes of England’s 26-24 defeat by France in their Six Nations opener in Paris last weekend before going off with a suspected broken nose.

There were concerns May, replaced at the Stade de France by Alex Goode, would be ruled out of this weekend’s clash at Murrayfield.

But an England statement issued Monday said the injury was not as severe as first thought.

“Jonny May has been cleared to play in Saturday’s Calcutta Cup clash against Scotland,” the statement said.

“Following a scan review this (Monday) evening and a specialist assessment, which confirmed an undisplaced fracture of his nose, he will be available for selection.”

England coach Stuart Lancaster is set to name his side for the latest edition of rugby union’s oldest international fixture on Thursday, with both teams looking to bounce back after Scotland were well beaten 28-6 by Ireland in Dublin last weekend.
