Chennai Super Kings, 164-9 in 20 overs (Brendon McCullum 32, Darren Bravo 30; Brad Hogg 4-29, Andre Russell 2-20)

lost to Kolkata Knight Riders 169-3 in 19.5 overs (Robin Uthappa 80 not out, Andre Russell 59 not out; Mohit Sharma 1-22)

An unbeaten 80 from Robin Uthappa led the Kolkata Knight Riders past the Chennai Super Kings in a pulsating contest at Eden Gardens.

The encounter got off to a flyer, with Chennai amassing 69 runs from the first six overs, although the visitors had also lost four wickets.

Dwayne Bravo (30) and Ravindra Jadeja (24) steadied the Chennai ship to lead the team to 160.

However, Uthappa produced one of the best innings of the 2015 IPL — a 58-ball 80 ensuring Kolkata always appeared in control of the game, despite needing six off the final over to win.

The Super Kings remain top of the table, ahead of the Rajasthan Royals on net run-rate, while the Knight Riders move into third.
