Cycling

The men’s and women’s time trials begin at 3.30pm (UAE), where athletes compete one at a time against the clock to see who can complete the course stretching for 30 kilometres (women) and 55km (men).

Tour de France champion Chris Froome, pictured, is among the contenders for men’s gold after a disappointing road race on Saturday. The Netherlands’ Tom Dumoulin and Germany’s Tony Martin are also among the favourites.

The women’s race should be a fight between Netherland’s Ellen van Dijk and New Zealand’s world champion Linda Villumsen.
