Premier League transfer window deadline day

Robbie Keane's return to Tottenham Hotspur was the only highlight in what was a disappointing end to the January transfer window that was hampered by the adverse weather conditions in the United Kingdom. The Premier League took action and allowed transfers to be completed after the 9pm deadline (UAE time), as long as they received emailed confirmation from both parties that deals had been agreed in principle. Andrei Arshavin's protracted move from Zenit St Petersberg to Arsenal has taken so many twists and turns that it will probably still not be resolved by the end of the summer transfer window. Elsewhere Chelsea left it late to bring in the Portugal winger Ricardo Quaresma on loan from Inter Milan and Calum Davenport agreed a loan deal to join Sunderland from West Ham. Both deals are until the end of the season. You can revisit all the key points of the day from our live text updates below and see who was brought in and who went out from the Premier League.

00.06am The defender Calum Davenport joins Sunderland on loan from West Ham. 11.02pm Chelsea land Ricardo Quaresma on a loan deal from Inter Milan. 9.30pm Robbie Keane rejoins Tottenham from Liverpool. 9.20pm West Brom sign Juan Carlos Menseguez from San Lorenzo on loan. 8.35pm Fulham sign Olivier Dacourt on loan from Inter Milan. 8.15pm West Brom have signed Youssouf Mulumbu, 21, on loan from Paris St Germain until the end of the season. 7.55pm Ryan Taylor signs for Newcastle United. 7.50pm Charles N'Zogbia signs for Wigan. 7.25pm Fulham also recall the defender Elliot Omozusi from a loan spell with Coca-Cola Championship side Norwich. 7.10pm Fulham keep hold of Coventry's Julian Gray until the end of the season. 6.30pm Everton sign Jo from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season 6.15pm Stoke sign Henri Camara on loan from Wigan. 4.45pm Portsmouth sign Angelos Basinas from AEK Athens. Yesterday Tal Ben Haim joins Sunderland on loan from Manchester City

00.06am West Ham's Calum Davenport signs a loan deal with Sunderland until the end of the season. 11.31pm Real Mallorca sign the Spanish Under-17 midfielder Sergio Tejera, 18, from Chelsea. 11.25pm The Czech Republic Under-21 striker Tomas Pekhart has left Tottenham to join Slavia Prague on a 12-month loan deal. 9.30pm Robbie Keane leaves Liverpool to return to Tottenham 9.25pmThe Greek club Panionios of Athens have signed Hull's 18-year-old youth team striker Yann Ekra, of France, on loan for the remainder of the season. 9.10pm Michael Chopra rejoins his old club Cardiff from Sunderland on loan until the end of the season. 9.01pm Jimmy Smith joins Leyton Orient on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season. 8.50pm Jamie Clark joins Rotherham on loan from Blackburn Rovers. 8.40pm Chelsea's Scott Sinclair will remain at Birmingham until the end of the season. 7.55pm Ryan Taylor signs for Newcastle United from Wigan. 7.50pm Charles N'Zogbia signs for Wigan from Newcastle United. 7.30pm Fulham let Adrian Leijer join Norwich City on loan until the end of the season 7.25pm Arsenal youth player Henri Lansbury joins Scunthorpe on a month's loan. 7.15pm Portsmouth loan out Khaleem Hyland to the Belgian club Zulte Waregem. 6.30pm Everton sign Jo from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season 6.15pm Stoke sign Henri Camara on loan from Wigan. 4.35pm Liverpool loan out Peter Gulacsi to Hereford until the end of the season. 4.30pm Barnsley take Adam Hammill on loan from Liverpool. 4.30pm Barnsley take Fulham's Andranik Teymourian on loan. 3.45pm Sunderland's Michael Liddle extends loan at Carlisle. 2.30pm James Chester joins Peterborough on loan from Manchester United. Yesterday Tal Ben Haim joins Sunderland on loan from Manchester City
00.45am Nobody is any wiser as to whether Andrei Arshavin will be an Arsenal player any time soon. How can a deal take an entire month to complete? 00.06am Calum Davenport, who has held talks with several clubs regarding a loan move, agrees to join Sunderland from West Ham on loan for the rest of the season. Midnight Finally some action as Chelsea, traditionally big spenders in the transfer markets, add to their ranks with the addition of Ricardo Quaresma from Inter Milan on loan for the remainder of the campaign. 10.00pm So we are still waiting on the Quaresma rumour. Nothing concrete is coming out of either Chelsea, who have said they will not be signing anyone, or Inter Milan. 9.45pm Another nail in the coffin for the Arshavin transfer. Reuters also claim that the deal is off. Arsenal walk away empty-handed it seems. 9.30pm Some joy for the transfer window, Robbie Keane has returned to Spurs after a torrid spell at Liverpool. 9.27pm Associated Press claim that Andrei Arshavin will not be joining Arsenal after all. We will wait for more confirmation in the on-off-on-off-on-off transfer for the Russian. Zenit club spokesman Alexi Petrov said that the two clubs could not agree on a transfer fee and compensation package for the midfielder. 9.25pmThe Greek club Panionios of Athens have signed Hull's 18-year-old youth team striker Yann Ekra, of France, on loan for the remainder of the season. 9.20pm West Brom complete the signing of Juan Carlos Menseguez from San Lorenzo on loan until the end of the season. We will continue to keep you informed of the late signings that are in motion but could not get through because of the weather, so stay with us. 9.10pm Michael Chopra re-joins his old club Cardiff from Sunderland on loan until the end of the season. 9.10pm Yep, Chelsea may have grabbed Ricardo Quaresma from under Spurs' noses. 9.01pm Those tinkers from Chelsea saying that no-one is leaving - Jimmy Smith joins Leyton Orient on loan for the rest of the season. 9pm Well that is it. It is officially closed, all barring deals that were made in principle. Andrei Arshavin and Robbie Keane are due to join Arsenal and Spurs. Just waiting for it to be official. 8.56pm Wigan's French midfielder Olivier Kapo has admitted he wants to leave the JJB Stadium. "I want a loan this winter to play, even in France. I am ready to face any challenges. If I stay at Wigan, I will have a blank year," he said. Maybe he should have said something sooner? There is only four minutes left. 8.50pm Jamie Clark joins Rotherham on loan from Blackburn Rovers. 8.50pm Chelsea announce that there will be no-one coming or going at Stamford Bridge. Now surely they could have saved any speculation by saying this earlier in the day and not with ten minutes to go. Or, they have failed in signing someone.... 8.45pm It looks like Middlesbrough will be relying on what they have already got as they reveal that they will not be signing anyone. Gareth Southgate has only recruited Marlon King to the Riverside in this transfer window. 8.40pm Chelsea's Scott Sinclair will remain at Birmingham until the end of the season. 8.40pm Manchester City have rejected an £8 million offer from Newcastle for the midfielder Michael Johnson. 8.35pm Do not fret Cottagers, Fulham sign Olivier Dacourt on loan from Inter Milan. 8.30pm Fulham are still looking to sign Olivier Dacourt on loan from Inter Milan. Meanwhile Arshavin passes his medical. When will it end? Not at 9pm it seems. 8.15pm West Brom have signed Youssouf Mulumbu, 21, on loan from Paris St Germain until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal. 8pm Arsenal have finally agreed a fee for the Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin. At last, this saga may have reached its end. Here is hoping. 8pm Liverpool have made a statement saying that they have reached a deal with Tottenham Hotspur over the sale of Robbie Keane to the London club. 7.55pm Like magic, Ryan Taylor goes the other way and joins Newcastle. The defender will add a bit of mettle to Magpies defence. 7.50pm Charles N'Zogbia joins Wigan Athletic from Newcastle United. We are still waiting on Ryan Taylor going the other way, but that move does not infringe N'Zogbia's move to the JJB. 7.35pm Apparently Giovani dos Santos has failed a medical at Portsmouth. He stays at Tottenham. 7.30pm Wigan are about to unveil Charles N'Zogbia as their new signing. He is part of a swap deal with Ryan Taylor going the other way to Newcastle. 7.30pm Fulham let Adrian Leijer join Norwich City on loan until the end of the season 7.25pm Arsenal youth player Henri Lansbury joins Scunthorpe on a month's loan. 7.25pm Fulham also recall the defender Elliot Omozusi from a loan spell with Coca-Cola Championship side Norwich. 7.15pm Finally someone is exiting Fratton Park. Portsmouth's 19-year-old Trinidad & Tobago defensive midfielder Khaleem Hyland has signed on a six-month loan for Belgian club Zulte Waregem. 7.10pm Roy Hodgson keeps the Coventry City winger Julian Gray on loan until the end of the season. The player has been at Craven Cottage since September but has yet to feature in the Premier League. 7pm Harry Redknapp rejects Newcastle United's proposed swap deal for Darren Bent with Obafemi Martins. Sounds like they are sticker book collectors. Bent is surely worth a "shiney"? 6.45pm Callum Davenport is on the brink of leaving West Ham for Sunderland. West Ham also indicate that they will not be involved in signing anyone in the next couple of hours. 6.30pm Strikerless Everton sign Jo from Manchester City for the rest of the season. Jo has failed to make an impact since signing for City in the summer. 6.30pm News just in: The Premier League has announced it will grant applications from clubs to complete transactions after the 1700 deadline today if there is e-mail confirmation from the two clubs involved that a deal has been agreed in principle. The club signing the player must also satisfy the board that the prevailing weather conditions have prevented the signing from being completed by the deadline. 6.15pm Have the floodgates opened? Henri Camara joins the relegation threatened Stoke City from Wigan Athletic on loan. 6pm It is still all quiet on the transfer front and the Basinas signing is the only one to go through the books so far. With three hours to go (officially), we could be in for a late flurry. That said, Stoke are expected to complete the signing of Henri Camara from Wigan. 5.25pm Liverpool confirm that they have allowed Robbie Keane to speak to Tottenham. 5.15pm Giovanni Dos Santos could be heading out of White Hart Lane to Fratton Park as Spurs are reported to have accepted a bid from Portsmouth for the tricky Mexican. 4.45pm Portsmouth sign Angelos Basinas on an 18 month contract from AEK Athens. 4.35pm Liverpool loan out Peter Gulacsi to Hereford until the end of the season. 4.30pm Barnsley add life to the transfer window. They take Fulham's Andranik Teymourian and the Liverpool winger Adam Hammill on loan. 4.15pm Despite earlier reports, Arsenal may have talked Andrei Arshavin back from Heathrow airport and to their training ground. Kasper Schemeichel wants away from Manchester City after the arrival of Shay Given and 4pm The Premier League have confirmed that they are in talks with the FA and Fifa about an extension on the transfer window. Player registration has to be filed to the FA at Soho Square, London and due to adverse weather conditions, the Premier League have asked for a relaxation over player formalities and they will be judged on a case-by-case basis. "We are exploring with the FA and FIFA whether an extension can be given in terms of medicals and personal terms," said a Premier League spokesman. With just under five hours of the transfer window left, the Premier League are still urging clubs to meet the 9pm (UAE time) deadline. 3.45pmSunderland's Michael Liddle extends loan at Carlisle 3.30pm The Premier League are reportedly in talks with Fifa about extending the deadline past the 9pm (UAE time) deadline due to the heavy snow in the UK. 3.15pmThe proposed transfer of Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St Petersberg to Arsenal is definitely off. Christian Panucci, the Roma defender, is not moving anywhere according to his agent. Hull and Manchester City were interested in his services. The snowy conditions continue to hamper player movement. It could be a busy afternoon after lengthy delays. Or it could be one of the dullest transfer deadline days on record. 3pm Inter Milan have left Ricardo Quaresma out of their updated Champions League squad, prompting reports he could be offered to Tottenham in exchange for the midfielder Jermaine Jenas. (*PA Sport) 2.45pm Portsmouth are rumoured to go Greek again. After completing the loan signing of Theofanis Gekas from Bayer Leverkusen yesterday, local media report that the Greece captain Angelos Basinas is on the South Coast. 2.30pm James Chester joins Peterborough on loan from Manchester United. It seems that Andrei Arshavin will not be joining Arsenal. He may well be on the plane back to Moscow after the two party's could not agree on the player's wages. 2pm So far it has been quiet in England. Rumours are rife about Robbie Keane leaving Liverpool for a return to Tottenham. So far nothing is concrete. The deadline day will be hampered by the downfall of snow in the country, which could hamper player's moving around the country to make and break deals. snelmes@thenational.ae
