Who had a good weekend and who had a bad one in the English top flight. UP
Shay Given, Aston Villa
The goalkeeper provided one of the most poignant moments of the weekend as he was pictured wiping away tears for Gary Speed before the start of the match against Swansea. But he composed himself to keep a clean sheet.

Russel Martin, Norwich City
The defender made not one, not two but three goalline clearances against Arsenal the previous week, including a remarkable one to deny Theo Walcott. He proved equally adept in the opposition box on Saturday, reacting quickest to put the home side ahead.

Tim Krul, Newcastle United
Steve Harper, the perennial understudy, won't be believe his luck. He spends years playing second fiddle to Shay Given only for injury in April to hand Krul the No 1 shirt. He has no chance of getting it back.

DOWN
Youssuf Mulumbu, West Brom
There are few less edifying sights in football than a player attempting to get one of his fellow professionals sent off. The midfielder tried to do that to Sandro on Saturday but the referee was wise to it.

Andrei Arshavin, Arsenal
Handed his first start in weeks, the Russian did the sum total of nothing against Fuham before being hauled off. He continues to live off the back of his remarkable four-goal haul against Liverpool in 2009.

John Terry, Chelsea
Yes, he eased the tension at Stamford Bridge with a goal and yes, he kept a clean sheet but should the England captain invite accusations of deliberately getting himself cautioned by time wasting to miss a less meaningful game?
