Thomas Woods predicts the outcome of week 10 of Premier League
fixtures, which include Chelsea hosting Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, free-scoring Manchester City hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United visiting Everton.
Saturday
Everton v Manchester Utd
United need to respond after last week's 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City. Goodison Park is not the best place to go to when in need of a result, but they can take solace in Everton's iffy form this season. United don't often lose twice in a row. 0-1
Chelsea v Arsenal
The key area in this London derby is in defence. Arsenal have shipped goals this season and will need top-class performances from their back four. The probable return of Thomas Vermaelen at centre-back is key, but on form so far, Chelsea look the stronger team. 3-1
Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers
A team with one point from six games against a side with 11 goals in their last two matches. Judging by City's 5-2 Carling Cup victory against the same opposition on Wednesday, it looks like a non contest, even if Roberto Mancini rests players for next week's Champions League tie at Villarreal. 3-0
Norwich v Blackburn Rovers
Back in the 1993/94 season, these two were title contenders. Things are a bit different now. Norwich have adapted well so far back in the Premier League and are sitting in eight position. They have three wins in their last six matches and are scoring at a steady rate. The same cannot be said for bottom-of-the-table Rovers, who look strong relegation candidates at this stage. 2-0
Sunderland v Aston Villa
Darren Bent revisits his former club and you wouldn't argue against his chances of getting on the score sheet. That said, Sunderland are just about coming into form and will be hard to beat for a Villa side who are the Premier League's draw specialists. 1-1
Swansea City v Bolton Wanderers
Swansea have yet to concede in four home games and have eight points. They host a Bolton side on an awful run who are missing the pace up front of last season's loan star Daniel Sturridge. 2-0
Wigan Athletic v Fulham
These are the kind of games Wigan will expect to win if they want to stay up. Fulham have only scored once on their travels so expect a hard fought game, probably settled by a single goal. 1-0
West Brom v Liverpool
Liverpool lost at the Hawthorns last year so they know what to expect. West Brom are not afraid to commit players forward, but it could suit Liverpool to play on the counter attack. The likes of Stewart Downing and Luis Suarez have the pace to punish the home side. 1-2
Sunday
Tottenham Hotspur v Queens Park Rangers
QPR will be buoyed after last week's London derby win at home to Chelsea. Don't expect them to make it two derbies in a row though. Spurs are in fine fettle and have way too much attacking prowess for QPR. 3-0
Monday
Stoke City v Newcastle United
Another test for Newcastle's unbeaten start to the season. No team takes points easily from Stoke but the visitors have more creativity and if they can get the ball down on the ground, the likes of Yohan Cabaye may make the difference. 1-2
