Heavyweight boxer Deontay WIlder started the week in typical big-hitting fashion when he knocked out Luis Ortiz in the seventh round of their rematch.

The Cuban had actually been dominating in Las Vegas until a clubbing right hand brought the fight to a premature end. Next up for American Wilder, who retained his WBC title, could be another rematch – against British boxer Tyson Fury.

In the Beach Soccer World Cup, the UAE endured a roller-coaster week at the finals in Paraguay. They started with a disastrous 5-1 thrashing by Belarus, then defied the odds to thump former world champions Russia 4-1, but then lost their final group game 3-1 to Senegal and failed to make the knockout stages.

History was made on the cricket pitch with the first day-night game to be held in India when Virat Kohli's side took on Bangladesh in the second Test at Eden Gardens.

The home team convincingly tamed the Tigers, winning by an innings and 46 runs in Kolkata to record their 12th-straight Test series triumph on home soil.
