Rashed Al Tayer and Rashed Al Qamzi will represent Team UAE at the UIM H20 Nations Cup against seven other teams in Shanghai on September 21-22.
Organised by H20 Racing, the promoters of the UIM F1 H2O World Championship, the UIM H2O Nations Cup hasn’t taken place since March 2015 when the now defunct Qatar Marine Sports Federation ran a race meeting in Doha Bay that was won by Team Russia.
Al Tayer and Al Qamzi enter the UIM H20 Nations Cup, which starts on Wednesday, fresh from an outing in France in the UIM F2 Championship, and will be looking to win Team UAE a fourth title, having been victorious in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
“The UIM H2O Nations Cup is an important event in the UIM calendar and I am delighted that Team UAE will be represented with a strong team and looking to claim a fourth victory,” said Salem Al-Romaithi, assistant general manager of the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC).
“The boats are built to similar specifications and that levels the playing field for everyone. The format is challenging, but our team drivers are not short on recent racing experience and I am sure that they will push hard to bring the victory back to the United Arab Emirates.”
Team Russia head to Shanghai to defend the title they won in Qatar in 2015, and will be represented by Roman Vandyshev, Konstantin Ustinov, and Andrey Panyushkin.
The other teams competing are Team Australia, CTIC F1 Shenzhen China, Team Germany, Team Italy, Team USA, and Team Malaysia.
Each team will run identical boats provided by race promoters, and there will be two free practice sessions on Tuesday. Competitive action starts on Wednesday with the time trials at 6am UAE time followed by the Mtach Race at 10am UAE time.
There will be another practice session on Thursday before racing starts for the UIM H2O Nations Cup. Race 1 begins at 9.30am UAE time, with Race 2 scheduled for 11.30am UAE time.
