Peugeot lead in Le Mans

Peugeot comfortably occupied the top two spots at daybreak in the Le Mans 24 Hours this morning with Britain's Allan McNish lying in third.

Peugeot comfortably occupied the top two spots at daybreak in the Le Mans 24 Hours this morning with Britain's Allan McNish ready to make his move should the French cars falter. With nine hours remaining, the diesel-engined Peugeot of Marc Gene, Alexander Wurz and David Brabham led the sister factory 908 of Stephane Sarrazin, Franck Montagny and Sebastien Bourdais by a lap. Allan McNish lay third, two laps behind the leader, the Scotsman sharing his diesel Audi with Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen, with the Lola Aston Martin of Jan Charouz, Thomas Enge and Stefan Mucke fourth, a further five laps behind. Meanwhile Benoit Treluyer was fortunate to escape serious injury when the Frenchman crashed his fourth-placed Peugeot after 13 hours.

The 32-year-old driver from Alencon was trapped in the wreckage but was conscious and taken to the track's Medical Centre. The 77th running of this year's annual race is due to finish at 5pm.
