Top-level tennis is back in the UAE with the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships taking place across two weeks.

With the men's tournament being completed later this week, the women took centre stage with Garbine Muguruza sealing the title with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Barbora Krejcikova.

A late bid to get world No 2 Rafael Nadal to play in the men's event failed when the Spaniard decided he was not yet fit enough to accept a wildcard invitation. Andy Murray, another former world No 1, withdrew from the tournament after his wife gave birth to their fourth child.

It has been a bad week at the office for two of football's greatest players of all-time when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both suffered disappointing exits from the Champions League at the last-16 stage.

Ronaldo's Juventus defeated Porto 3-2 in Turin, but were knocked out on the away-goals rule after drawing 4-4 on aggregate.

Messi and Barcelona, 4-1 down from the first leg at Camp Nou, could only draw the return match 1-1 in France. And that meant it was the first time at least one of the dynamic duo had failed to appear in the quarter-finals since 2005.
