BMW's replacement on next season's starting grid will be unveiled by Formula One's governing body early next week the FIA president Max Mosley said yesterday.
Three candidates are in the running for the coveted spot, including BMW-Sauber, Epsilon Euskadi and Litespeed, after BMW pulled out of the 2010 season.
"W we got the final offers from the three most serious teams and in the next day or two, together with the due diligence people, we'll assess them and then we'll pick one of them," said Mosley speaking from Italy during the first practice season for the Italian Grand Prix.
"BMW-Sauber are one of the three but of course they are now effectively a new team because they didn't sign the Concorde agreement. The other two are Epsilon Euskadi and Litespeed."
Force India's Adrian Sutil set the pace in the opening day of free practice yesterday, lapping the Monza circuit in one minute 23.924 secs.
German Sutil, who is yet to record a point this season, out-shone former teammate Giancarlo Fisichella, who made a rocky debut for Ferrari finishing slowest of the pack.
Fisichella switched to Ferrari to replace Luca Badoer who struggled to fill the shoes of injured Brazilian Felipe Massa.
McLaren dominated the morning session, with world champion Lewis Hamilton and team-mate Heikki Kovalainen securing a team one-two early in the day, before being outrun by Force India's Sutil. Championship leader Jenson Button dropped from seventh to 19th in his Brawn car during the day.
Seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher has committed to a further three years as Ferrari consultant.
"Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and me agreed in extending our cooperation. I look forward to participating in future projects," he said.

Tailors and retailers miss out on back-to-school rush
Tailors and retailers across the city said it was an ominous start to what is usually a busy season for sales.
With many parents opting to continue home learning for their children, the usual rush to buy school uniforms was muted this year.
“So far we have taken about 70 to 80 orders for items like shirts and trousers,” said Vikram Attrai, manager at Stallion Bespoke Tailors in Dubai.
“Last year in the same period we had about 200 orders and lots of demand.
“We custom fit uniform pieces and use materials such as cotton, wool and cashmere.
“Depending on size, a white shirt with logo is priced at about Dh100 to Dh150 and shorts, trousers, skirts and dresses cost between Dh150 to Dh250 a piece.”
A spokesman for Threads, a uniform shop based in Times Square Centre Dubai, said customer footfall had slowed down dramatically over the past few months.
“Now parents have the option to keep children doing online learning they don’t need uniforms so it has quietened down.”
