Barff sets the early pace at UAE GT Championship

Rob Barff and Leon Price powered to an impressive victory in the GTA Class on Saturday at the Dubai Autodrome, showing they will be the team to beat in the UAE GT Championship.

On the final day of the Dubai Motorsport Festival, the pair led their AUH Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia to a dominant victory to add to their triumph in the opening round of the season, last month.

"This car is fantastic," Price said, noting that the team have won five races from five starts. "Once again, Rob set a great early pace. He was super consistent."

Ahmad Al Harthy and James Sutton were second. They also won the Porsche GT3 Endurance Challenge ME race within a race, with the pair of Christian Menzel and Armin Schmid second.

The Emirati duo of Saeed Al Mehairi and Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum won the GTC Class in the Yas Marina Circuit Aston Martin.

"The team did a good job and gave us a very strong car. Conditions were tough but it is good to score a win here at Dubai Autodrome," Al Mehairi said.

Saudi Arabia's Prince Abdulaziz Al Faisal scored a commanding victory in Round 2 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East to take the lead in the one-make series. Prince Abdulaziz led from start to finish and eventually won by almost ten seconds from fellow-Saudi Bandar Alesayi.

Making his debut in the Porsche GT3 Cup series this season, Oman's Al Harthy grabbed the other podium position.

The Porsche GT3 Cup series now moves on to the UAE capital next weekend for Rounds 3-4 which are part of the official race support programme for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Nader Zuhour won in the Class 1 series in the second Total UAE Touring Car Championship race, beating Mohammed Al Owais in the Emirates Racing Team Seat.

In the Motorcity UAE Sportbikes Championship, Mahmoud Tannir celebrated his second 600 Class win of the weekend.

The Dubai-based Lebanese rider fought back from a slow start to carve his way through the field.

Tannir, who now leads the championship standings after three rounds, said: "I had a bad start and also had a problem with my drink system which was spraying water in my helmet. But I composed myself, sorted out the problem and then started to push."
