SAN JUAN // Eugene Kingsale scored both runs as the Netherlands rallied for a 2-1 victory over the heavily favoured Dominican Republic in 11 innings on Tuesday to earn a surprise spot in the second round of the World Baseball Classic.
After an error by first baseman Willy Aybar allowed the winning run to score, Netherlands players rushed out of the dugout and piled all over each other in a raucous celebration that resembled a World Series finale.
"This is a miracle. The Dominican Republic is one of the best teams in the world," the Netherlands manager Rod Delmonico said.
In other action, Yoennis Cespedes and Yosbany Peraza both hit a solo home run as Cuba advanced to the second round with a 5-4 victory over Australia.

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.
