The Rangers restored their lead at the top of American League West after fighting back from 7-1 down against Los Angeles Angels in a wild game in Arlington.

The Texas Rangers restored their lead over Los Angeles Angels at the top of American League West with a superb fightback victory over their nearest challengers.

The Angels had moved to within three games of Texas with a 6-2 win yesterday and they looked set to further trim the gap after building a 7-1 lead by the third inning in tonight's clash between the two.

Texas battled back but then found themselves in more trouble as they trailed by three in the 10th.

However, they refused to give in and Nelson Cruz's home run and Mitch Moreland's bases-loaded single brought them within one run before Elvis Andrus sealed an 11-10 victory for the Rangers with a walk-off, two-run single off Jason Isringhausen.

Afterwards the Rangers confirmed they had purchased the contract of highly-touted prospect Mike Olt from Double-A Frisco.

To make room for Olt on the roster, the Rangers have optioned infielder Brandon Snyder to Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers have also moved right-hander Colby Lewis, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow, to the 60-day disabled list.

Olt, who has played four positions this season in Frisco, was hitting .287 with 27 home runs and 81 RBIs in the minors. Snyder hit .281 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 38 games.

The New York Yankees snapped a four-game losing streak with a comprehensive 12-3 win over Baltimore Orioles.

Robinson Cano's grand slam highlighted a seven-run third inning for the Yankees, who extended their lead over Baltimore at the top of the American League East back to six 1/2 games with the victory.

Ryan Ludwick continued his fine series against San Diego to help the Cincinnati Reds claim a 6-4 win over the Padres.

After driving in four runs during Tuesday's victory, Ludwick repeated the feat to move onto 10 RBIs over the first three games.

The Atlanta Braves saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end as they lost 4-2 to the Miami Marlins.

Ryan Braun hit his 29th homer of the season - the leading mark in the National League - as Milwaukee beat Houston 13-4 to complete a three-game sweep of the Astros.

Milwaukee have now won three on the trot having previously lost nine in 10, while the Astros have now lost 28 times in their last 31 matches as they continue to prop up the NL Central division.

NL East leaders the Washington Nationals slumped to their second successive defeat at the hands of bottom-placed Philadelphia Phillies.

Jimmy Rollins homered twice and new signing Nate Schierholtz hit a tiebreaking shot to help the Phillies secure a 3-2 win.

AL West's bottom side the Seattle Mariners continued their good form as they made it seven wins on the trot with a 5-3 triumph over AL East stragglers the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 to complete a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium, while AL Central leaders the Chicago White Sox downed the Minnesota Twins 3-2.

Chicago's city rivals the Cubs were beaten 8-4 at home by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays downed the Oakland Athletics 4-1, the Kansas City Royals defeated the Cleveland Indians 5-2 and Detroit Tigers won 7-5 against the Boston Red Sox thanks largely to a five-run fifth inning.
