Mishra and Khan restrict Kings XI Punjab as Delhi Daredevils claim first win of IPL season

The Delhi Daredevils claimed their first victory of the Indian Premier League with a cool performance against Kings XI Punjab.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra and captain Zaheer Khan led the way with the ball, limiting Punjab to 111-9.

Mishra ended with figures of four for 11 off his three overs and Zaheer gave up only 14 runs from his four overs.

Quinton de Kock and Sanju Samson then took over with the bat. They added 91 together in 64 balls to put Delhi on course.

When Pawan Negi sent Paredeep Sahu over the midwicket boundary for a six halfway into the 14th over, Delhi won by eight wickets.

“I have nothing much to say,” said Man of the Match Mishra in his 100th IPL game.

“I just trying to take wickets. I got success and I am really happy today.

“The wicket was on the slower side, a little effort was needed to spin the ball. We have worked hard on batting, bowling and fielding, and it came out very well in this game.

“We hope to do good work in the later matches, too.”

Delhi captain Zaheer was relieved to get the much-needed victory.

“It was required. The win was required for us. I’m happy with the way we put our efforts on the field,” he said.

“The energy out there was fantastic.

“We want that young energy, you want to see that energy on the field and very happy with the way the boys threw themselves around. We kept taking wickets, Mishra was really good. We want to build momentum at the right time, let everyone express themselves freely. This will definitely help.”
