Felipe Massa tried to remain upbeat after being well beaten in qualifying for today's Belgian Grand Prix, but admitted he will need more from his Ferrari if he is to challenge for victory. The Brazilian had to settle for second on the grid behind the McLaren-Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, and he confessed that he had got the maximum out of his car, but had still come up short in the end.

"I did a great lap, but unfortunately it was not enough," he said. "Sometimes you do a great lap and you are till missing something. "We need to understand why. We had a great car and I did a great lap and it wasn't enough. The car feels OK, the balance is good, for sure in terms of car balance we have a good car, but we need to pick up a little bit more." Massa is hoping the three tenths difference between him and his championship rival Hamilton will be explained by different strategies, but he acknowledged that McLaren had enjoyed a speed advantage in qualifying.

"We don't know what the fuel loads are compared to them but I think they were quicker in all three qualifying sessions so that is a sign they are pretty strong here," he said. @Email:gcaygill@thenational.ae
