Manchester United striker Robin van Persie close to Fenerbahce move — reports

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is close to agreeing a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce, according to reports.

Van Perise’s future has been a topic of hot discussion this summer, with the Dutch striker determined to remain at United.

However, the persistent interest from Fenerbahce — and the offer of a three-year contract worth £4.7m (Dh26.6m) a year — is reportedly tempting Van Persie, who is concerned about a potential lack of playing time at Old Trafford next season.

Should Van Persie move to the Turkish Super Lig club, he will fill the squad place left by Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike, who has moved to Arabian Gulf League champions Al Ain on a season-long loan.

A move to Fenerbahce will also see the 31-year-old striker reunite with former United teammate Nani.

The Portuguese winger sealed a move earlier this month and has urged Van Persie to join him.

“I haven’t had the chance to talk with Robin van Persie yet,” Nani said. “But if he comes to Fenerbahce, I am sure that he will be very successful. I know Robin very well and it would be the right decision if Fenerbahce sign him.”

Van Persie joined United in 2012 for a fee of £24m, scoring 58 goals in 105 games and winning the Premier League golden boot in his debut season.

Injuries, which have plagued much of his career, returned to disrupt his form and game time for United in the past two seasons, and the club are ready to offload the Netherlands international.
