Cody Parkey drilled a 36-yard field goal as time expired on Monday to lift the Philadelphia Eagles to a 30-27 come-from-behind NFL victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Darren Sproles starred for the Eagles, catching seven passes for 152 yards and running for 26 yards and a touchdown as Philadelphia improved to 2-0 in the young season with their second straight second-half rally.
“He’s just a special player,” Eagles coach Chip Kelly said of Sproles. “He came through and came up huge for us tonight.”
Eagles quarterback Nick Foles completed 21 of 37 pass attempts for 331 yards and one touchdown with one interception.
LeSean McCoy added a touchdown on the ground for the Eagles, who won in Indianapolis for the first time since 1993.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was 20-for-34 for 172 yards with three touchdowns. But he also threw a costly fourth quarter interception and the Colts fell to 0-2.
The Colts led by seven and were within field-goal range late in the fourth quarter when Luck’s pass intended for TY Hilton was intercepted by Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins.
Philadelphia, who had trailed 17-6 at halftime, needed five plays to tie the game, as Sproles took a short pass 51 yards in a drive capped by Jeremy Maclin’s touchdown catch.
Parkey took the field to attempt a game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining, the second time in as many weeks Kelly called on him to seal a comeback victory.
Parkey’s initial 36-yard field goal attempt was good, but Philadelphia’s celebration was cut short when officials awarded Indianapolis a timeout they said the Colts had called before Parkey’s kick.
Parkey lined up again and again his effort was good.
“We’re going to play a full 60 minutes – and it took the full 60 today,” Kelly said.
