Leafs end Canadiens' winning streak

John Mitchell scored the winner in a shootout as the Toronto Maple Leafs ended the Montreal Canadiens' six-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Nikolai Kulemin also scored in the shootout for Toronto, who won for the sixth time in seven games. Jonas Gustavsson, the Leafs' netminder, sealed the victory when he saved Brian Gionta's third-round shot. "We're a confident group in here, we're young, we're having a lot of fun, obviously, coming into games and winning," Mitchell said over the celebratory post-game music filtering out from the Maple Leafs' dressing room's inner sanctum. "Overtime and shoot-outs were kind of our nemesis earlier in the season but things have turned for us obviously in the past few weeks, so we're just going to ride this. It's great for our team and it's great especially for all the young guys in here." Gionta had scored twice in regulation for the Canadiens, levelling the score at 2-2 on a power play tip in the third period. His other goal came in the first period after Toronto had taken a 1-0 lead on Tyler Bozak's power play goal. Phil Kessel put Toronto ahead 2-1 with the only goal of the second period. * Reuters
