It's at least good to see Odom – a two-time NBA champion, Sixth Man of the Year and even US Olympian (of course, as a member of the shameful bronze medal-winning team of 2004, but we'll let it slide) – making news for basketball reasons again.
For a while there Lamar was perhaps better known for playing a supporting role as the title character 'Lamar' in the piece of high-concept performance art that was Khloe & Lamar, along with his frequent cameos as 'Lamar' on Keeping up with the Kardashians.
Then things began to get weird (even by reality television standards) for Lamar, and his life kind of fell apart.
So now he's back to try and be notable for basketball, which we swear he was still very good at as recently as 2011.
He shouldn't be expecting a walk in the park. The Liga ACB is probably the best domestic basketball league in the world outside North America and the team he has signed with, Saski Baskonia, are right there in ninth at 9-10, jockeying for a the eighth play-off spot with Joventut Badalona (9-10), in eighth, CB Sevilla (9-9) in seventh and CB 1939 Canarias (9-10) behind them in 10th.
Odom joins a club that, according to its Wikipedia page at least, has employed the likes of current NBA players Goran Dragic (Suns), Tiago Splitter (Spurs), Jose Calderon (Mavericks), Luis Scola (Pacers) and Mirza Teletovic (Nets) in the past.
According to the AP, his contract will run for two months, with 'an option to extend the contract until the close of the season'. Baskonia have 15 more league games remaining (including a trip to Barcelona).
Also according to the AP, he's expected in Vitoria, where the club is located, this week and could make his debut on Saturday against Valladolid.
He might even be familiar with one of his soon-to-be teammates – Andres Nocioni, who played in the NBA from 2004-2012 with Chicago, Sacramento and Philadelphia.
We'll see if he can bring anything to this club and actually help them into the Spanish play-offs, or if the Lamar Odom who could play basketball is simply gone forever.
