Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri signs one-year contract extension

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has signed a one-year contract extension that ties him to the Italian champions until June 2018.

Allegri took over from Antonio Conte in July 2014 and has enjoyed a trophy-laden two years at the club, winning two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia and one Italian Super Cup alongside last season’s appearance in the Champions League final.

The 48-year-old’s existing deal ran until June 2017 and has been renewed with a potential domestic double on the horizon with Juve, who recently secured their fifth straight league title, facing Allegri’s former club AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final later this month.

A club statement read: “Following his first season in the Bianconeri dugout, which yielded Scudetto honours and a historic 10th Coppa Italia success, Allegri penned a new agreement until 2017, and his fine work in steering the club to Italian Super Cup and Quinquennio [five successive league titles] glory has been rewarded by another fresh deal.”

Allegri started his managerial career at then Serie C2 club Anglianese before going on to coach SPAL and Grosseto. Sassuolo were promoted into Serie B in 2007 under his guidance, before taking over Cagliari and then Milan.
