India reclaim top spot in world rankings with series-clinching Test win over New Zealand

New Zealand collapsed to 197 all out on day four of the second test against India in Kolkata, losing the match by 178 runs. As such, the hosts have taken an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and also returned to the top of the ICC world test rankings, moving ahead of Pakistan.

Spinners Ravichandran Aswhin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets apiece, while pace bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-28) and Mohammed Shami (3-46) also chipped in. The Black Caps lost seven wickets for 62 in the final session.

The slide began as Ashwin had Tom Latham caught for 74 behind immediately after tea. Shami then struck a double blow, trapping Mitchell Santner (9) lbw and then bowling BJ Watling with an outswinger in the 59th and 61st overs respectively.

The writing was on the wall when Luke Ronchi played on for 32 off Jadeja, who also accounted for Matt Henry (18) with Virat Kohli taking a sharp catch at short cover.

The pacers then returned to account for the tail-enders as New Zealand fell far short of the target of 376 set by India.
