Hearts v Rangers, 11.45pm UAE time, Wednesday November 30

Rangers defender Danny Wilson has backed Joe Dodoo for a starting spot in Mark Warburton's side as the Ibrox club aim on Wednesday against Hearts to make it three wins in a row for the first time this season.

The former Leicester City player came off the bench against Partick Thistle on Saturday to rescue his side as his two late goals cancelled out Kris Doolan's opener.

The 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Ibrox following his summer transfer and his strikes at Firhill were his first in the league for the club.

It was only the fifth time in 14 league games that Rangers have managed to score more than one goal in a league match and Wilson said Dodoo’s double against Partick has firmly staked his claim for a sustained run in the team.

“He has done well and this can be a platform for him to push on,” the Scottish defender, who will be facing his former side, said.

“He’s had a few injuries but now hopefully he can get a run. He has the qualities to kick on.

“I think that’s what we do need. We have been trying to preach to each other that we should be calmer when we get into those situations.

“I’m not a forward so it’s not my place to tell people how to finish but Joe has scored two great goals.

“He has the capabilities to put the ball in the back of the net.

“We have not scored that many goals this season and that has been our downfall in games.”

Hearts, who trail Rangers by three points, could leapfrog the Glasgow giants into second spot with a win and manager Robbie Neilson is confident his side can improve on their third place finish of last season.

“It’s a huge game for us,” said Neilson, who will speak to MK Dons following the game after the English League One side made an official approach for the 36-year-old.

“This season has been kind of stop-start games-wise.

“Now we’re going into a period of playing Saturday–midweek-Saturday. It gives us a chance to get into second and to try and keep hold of it.”
