Tommy Fleetwood, Sergio Garcia and Danny Willett confirmed for 2020 Omega Dubai Desert Classic

The quartet will join the likes of defending champion Bryson DeChambeau and 2016 Open winner Henrik Stenson for the January 23-26 event at Emirates Golf Club

Europe Ryder Cup star Tommy Fleetwood has been confirmed for next year’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic, alongside major champions Sergio Garcia, Danny Willett and Louis Oosthuizen.

The quartet will join the likes of defending champion Bryson DeChambeau, 2016 Open winner Henrik Stenson and Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter for the January 23-26 event at Emirates Golf Club.

“I love playing in Dubai and this event is among my favourite weeks of the year,” said 2017 Race to Dubai champion Fleetwood, who was tied-sixth at the tournament earlier this year before finishing runner-up at the Open in July.

“We always get looked after so well and the whole week is a fantastic experience. I hope in 2020 I can add my name to the amazing calibre of previous champions.”

That roll of honour includes Willett and Garcia, who each followed their Desert Classic victories by triumphing at the Masters a few months later – earning both a first major crown.

Willett struggled for fitness and form following his 2016 victory at Augusta National, but returned to the winner's circle in style this past year by landing two of the European Tour's main prizes: the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai last November and then the BMW PGA Championship – the circuit's flagship event - at Wentworth last month.

“My victory at this event has a very special place in my heart,” Willett said of his win three years ago at the Desert Classic. “Not only was it a fantastic springboard to what followed at Augusta a few months later, it was a title I had always wanted to win.

“Having watched so many star names do battle over the past 30 years, it was an honour to add my name to a list of such iconic champions. I can’t wait to get back to Emirates Golf Club in search of a second title.”

Garcia, meanwhile, will be looking to emulate his 2017 success, when he secured a three-shot victory ahead of 2007 champion Stenson. The Spaniard is a 16-time winner on the European Tour.

DeChambeau could still be the man to beat, though. The American prevailed earlier this year with a record-breaking victory, carding the tournament-lowest total of 24-under par to win by seven shots – another record - over closest challenger Matt Wallace.

Wallace, one of the brightest prospects on tour, returns too to the $3.25 million (Dh12m) event in January. Matt Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood and Rafa Cabrera Bello have also been confirmed.
