Godolphin's Certify gets break after Newmarket victory

A pleasant surprise for Dubai-based racing operation as filly keeps excitement in check to win Group 1 race by four and a half lengths at Newmarket.

NEWMARKET, England // Certify will be put away for the winter having confirmed her status as the leading juvenile filly in Britain with a comfortable victory in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile today.

The Godolphin filly appeared to be tricky in the preliminaries under Mickael Barzalona before she put to bed the Group 1 contest by four-and-a-half lengths. It was the fourth race of the season for the daughter of Elusive Quality, and trainer Mahmoud Al Zarooni confirmed she had earned a winter holiday.

"She was a bit excited before the race and that is not normal for her," he said. "It is her fourth run of the year and I would prefer to put her away for next season. She is a lady we should look after."

Certify handed Godolphin a third successive victory in the race after White Moonstone and Lyric Of Light. Neither performed well the following season: White Moonstone was injured before the English 1000 Guineas; Lyric Of Light has struggled for form.

"Lyric Of Light won this race last year but I think that this filly has won the race better than she did. I cannot say 100 per cent definite that she is better than Lyric Of Light but she has won by over four lengths and Lyric Of Light only won by a head," Al Zarooni said.

He conceded many good two year olds are not good at three. "I hope she is not one of those."

Simon Crisford and Al Zarooni will decide whether Certify travels to Dubai for winter, or remains in Newmarket, like Blue Bunting, Godolphin's 2011 English 1000 Guineas and Irish Oaks victor.
