Former Packers favourite Favre is out to prove his point

Brett Favre has denied that tonight's game with his former club the Green Bay Packers (2-1) is about revenge, and says he is simply focused on helping his new side, the Minnesota Vikings (3-0), triumph. The veteran quarterback is certain to be a focal point of the all-NFL North Conference clash in Minneapolis, his first game against the Packers since he left the club in 2008. Favre won the Super Bowl in January 1997 during a glittering career with the Packers.

The quarterback reiterated that while he is out to prove a point to the Packers management with his undefeated Vikings side, it is purely because he is still at the top of his game. "It's human nature to feel, I didn't use the word revenge, but to prove that you still could play," he said. "To prove someone wrong, or prove a group wrong. So you can call it what you want." "What matters is this game, and that's all that matters. This team has welcomed me here.

"It's been a lot of fun, it has been a lot of work, but I'm having a good time. And that's all that matters." Favre, 39, had retired in February last year but announced his intentions to come back. The Packers, though, were unwilling to alter their plans and make him first choice quarterback at the expense of Aaron Rodgers. They agreed to him leaving, and he joined the New York Jets. He hinted again at hanging up his boots in the off-season before agreeing to play in the purple and gold of the Vikings, the arch-rivals of the Packers, and that has led to anger from his former fans.

He acknowledges he may get a tough reaction from the Packers supporters tonight and when he returns to Lambeau Field next month, but he said: "I'm proud of the career I had there.
