The pressure on Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has intensified after losing four of their last six Premier League matches, and slipping to ninth place in the table.
Chelsea backed boss Lampard with a £220 million ($330m) summer spending spree to overhaul the Stamford Bridge squad and while the Blues' hierarchy knows a major reshuffle takes time to yield top dividends, recent results will have set off the alarm bells.
The last outing, a 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City, was particularly painful as they were leapfrogged by Pep Guardiola's side.
Lampard desperately needs expensive summer recruits and Germany internationals Timo Werner and Kai Havertz to click into top gear, and they might have the chance to put things right on Sunday.
It's a week off Premier League action as the FA Cup third round gets underway. Chelsea host Morecambe, a fourth tier team, and even though they have won their last four straight league games it would be an almighty shock for the Blues to lose this one.
Lampard was overseeing training as his squad tuned up for the match, with Werner, Havertz, Thiago Silva and other stars taking part.
Chelsea follow the cup match with a Premier League trip to Fulham, and then another away game at high-flying Leicester City, three matches which will go a long way to determining the success of their season.
