Transfer deadline: 11 Premier League deals to watch out for as the window closes

Will Alexis Sanchez be swapped for Raheem Sterling and is there room at Chelsea for Ross Barkley?

It's looking fairly likely that Alex Sanchez has played his last game for Arsenal. Having turned down a new contract at the Emirates Stadium with his current deal to expire at the end of this season, it would make sense for Arsenal to cash in now - especially if they can get a replacement, albeit of lesser quality, in the form of Sterling. The latest reports are that Chelsea have bid £25 million for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who is another out of contract at the end of the season. Everton were holding out for £50m but that won't happen now. The problem for Barkley is which club bigger than Everton can offer him a regular first-team slot? Would he play ahead of Cesc Fabregas as the creative fulcrum at Chelsea? The Brazilian-born Spaniard Diego Costa is desperate for a move away from Chelsea after the very public falling out with manager Antonio Conte. He's said to want a move back to Atletico Madrid but they are under a transfer embargo until January. Possible solutions in the mean time include a loan move to Las Palmas, or even Everton who are known to be hunting for a new striker. Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has all the attributes to be the best wing-back in the Premier League. Many people agree, including Chelsea manager Antonio Conte after the two clubs agreed a £40m fee, only for the England international to turn down the move as he wants to play in central midfield. Danny Drinkwater was a vital cog in Leicester City's title winning team during the 2015/16 season, particularly with his raking passes supplying the quicksilver Jamie Vardy. It can be argued that Drinkwater deserves a chance at a bigger club and Chelsea have been linked with a £30m bid for the midfielder. Sir Alex Ferguson was always full of praise for Jonny Evans during his Manchester United days and his career took a nose-dive when he moved to West Brom, although it did mean regular playing time. Linked with just about every upper tier club in Europe this year, Virgil van Dijk is still a Southampton player. The situation has to change though. The defender hasn't played for the club this season, is training with the under-23 side and handed in a transfer request earlier this month which was rejected by the club. It's that crazy time of year when Premier League clubs scramble to do some late transfer business before the window closes - unless you're Jose Mourinho who likes to do his shopping before the season starts.

The window closes tomorrow night and there's potential for some huge amounts to be spent on some big names, as well as huge amounts on some lesser names as player values have become increasingly inflated in the wake of Neymar's £200m move from Barcelona to PSG.

Full-backs now cost in excess of £50m, centre-backs are valued (by the media at least) in the region of £70m, and Barcelona have paid Borussia Dortmund a fee potentially rising to £135.5m for Ousmane Dembele who scored six league goals last season.
