Few would have predicted Sheffield United's fall from grace judged on how well they performed last season on their return to the Premier League. Ninth-place under Chris Wilder was well earned and should have been the launchpad for the Blades to kick on and cement their place as an established top-flight team this term. But things have not quite panned out that way. Their recruitment in the close season was questionable and to describe their start to the 2020/21 season as a disaster would be an understatement. The Blades needed 18 games to record their first Premier League victory and Wilder was sacked after five years in charge in March 2021. Relegation to the Championship is near certain with Sheffield United rooted to the bottom of the table and currently 15 points from safety.
