Sehrou Guirassy 8; Callum Hudson-Odoi 8, Timo Werner 5: Rennes v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea became the first club to book their place in the Uefa Champions League knockout stages after the Premier League side claimed a late 2-1 win at Rennes on Tuesday.

The Blues started much the stronger side and took a deserved lead through Callum Hudson-Odoi when the winger ran on to a superb pass from Mason Mount.

Rennes grew into the match and by half-time were the team applying the pressure but they had to wait until five minutes remaining as Sehrou Guirassy headed home from a corner and it looked enough to earn Rennes a point.

However, substitute Olivier Giroud had other ideas, the French striker leaping highest to angle a header into the Rennes goal and past a furious Alfred Gomis in added time.

After three wins and a draw from their first four games, Chelsea are comfortably through to the last-16, as are Group E rivals Sevilla, who secured their own late 2-1 win at Krasnodar on Tuesday.

Both teams are level on 10 points and face each other on Wednesday next week in Seville for a match that is likely to decide the group winners.
