Premier League predictions: Liverpool and Manchester United share spoils, Manchester City sweep aside Newcastle

We pick out the winners and losers from the latest round of English top-flight fixture

THURSDAY - Aston Villa v Everton (9pm kick-off UAE): Everton's European aspirations are just about alive and kicking following a 1-0 win at West Ham that leaves them three points behind the fifth-placed Hammers. Villa defeated Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park less than two weeks ago and could finally have Jack Grealish back from injury. Prediction: Villa 1 Everton 2. AFP

Manchester United v Liverpool (11.15pm): Attempt No 2 to get this fixture played after the game on May 2 was postponed due to United fans protesting against their American owners. The delay has not helped the home side who have been forced to play three games in five days and rested 10 players for Tuesday's defeat to Leicester. Prediction: United 2 Liverpool 2. AFP

FRIDAY - Newcastle v Manchester City (11pm): After a mildly annoying wait before the title was signed and sealed, Pep Guardiola's head to Tyneside as champions of England once again. City will be looking to flex their muscles after last week's defeat to Chelsea and Newcastle, top-flight status secured and top scorer Callum Wilson missing, should provide puny opposition. Prediction: Newcastle 0 City 3. AFP

SATURDAY - Burnley v Leeds (3.30pm): In their last five games, Leeds have beaten Manchester City and Spurs, drawn with Liverpool and Manchester United - but were well beaten by Brighton in the other. Which Leeds will turn up here? Chris Wood is in fine form for Burnley with five goals in three games as the Clarets eye the heady heights of 13th in the table. Prediction: Burnley 2 Leeds 1. Getty

Southampton v Fulham (6pm): It has been powder puff end to the season for Fulham who have been relegated with three games still to play. Only Sheffield United have scored less than the Cottagers paltry goals total of 25. They face a Saints side who topped the table in November but then fell away in spectacular fashion. Prediction: Southampton 3 Fulham 1. Reuters

Brighton v West Ham ( 11pm): The Hammers are in danger of falling at the final hurdle in their bid for European football next season. They sit fifth in the table but have Liverpool, Spurs and Everton breathing down their necks and have lost three out of their last four games. Brighton, in 17th, have avoided a last-gasp relegation battle thanks to the the bottom three clubs being so abject. Prediction: Brighton 0 West Ham 2. Reuters

SUNDAY - Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (3pm): If this is to be the end of Roy Hodgson's reign at Palace, then the finale will have been a huge disappointment to the veteran manager. One win in six is a miserable run and it would be no surprise to see them drop further down from their current 14th spot. After Villa's own poor finish to the season, a top-half finish is the best they can hope for now. Prediction: Palace 1 Villa 2. EPA

Tottenham v Wolves (5.05pm): After their 4-0 thrashing of Sheffield United, it was back down to earth with a bump for Spurs last week as they were swept aside 3-1 at Leeds to leave them two places and two points outside the top five. A young Wolves team battled back from a goal down to beat 10-man Brighton last week and sit safely mid-table. Prediction: Spurs 3 Wolves 1. AP

West Brom v Liverpool (7.30pm): Liverpool will be hoping to boost their goal difference against the hapless Baggies here. Sam Allardyce's side have won just five games all season, conceding a hefty 68 goals along the way, comfortably the worst defensive record in the top-flight this season. Prediction: West Brom 0 Liverpool 3. EPA

Everton v Sheffield United (10pm): As catastrophic Premier League seasons go, Sheffield United's takes some beating. Rock-bottom of the league, joint-worst win record (five), most defeats (28), worst goals tally (18), second-worst defensive record (62 conceded) to finish up with a miserable 17 points. Expect Everton to take full advantage here. Prediction: Everton 4 Sheffield United 1. Getty

The end is nigh for the current Premier League campaign and there are only a couple of battles left to fight.

Manchester City have the title safely in the bag while the relegation slots have also been decided with three games left to play, leaving Sheffield United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham facing second-tier football next season.

Still to be decided, though, are who will go on to play Champions League and Europa League football.

Merseyside pair Everton and Liverpool still have eyes on European places and they take on Aston Villa and Manchester United, respectively, on Thursday.

Manchester City face Newcastle at St James' Park on Friday in what is Pep Guardiola's side's first game since becoming champions.

On Saturday, Burnley entertain Leeds, Southampton play host to Fulham and Brighton play West Ham on the south coast.

Sunday sees Crystal Palace against Aston Villa and Spurs versus Wolves in London, West Brom take on Liverpool at the Hawthorns and Everton face Sheffield United on Merseyside.
