Karren Brady, the vice-chairman at West Ham United, has said the Premier League season should be declared "null and void" if the campaign cannot be completed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

All elite football in the United Kingdom, including the Premier League, Football League, and Scottish Premiership, has been postponed until at least April 3 as authorities take measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

Should the Premier League season be postponed longer to the point where all 38 games cannot be completed, Brady believes the campaign should be revoked, meaning Liverpool will not win the title, despite holding a 25-point lead. It would also mean no clubs would be relegated. Brady's West Ham are 16th in the table, but level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth in the relegation zone.

"Suspension or cancellation of the league was always a certainty," Brady wrote in her column for British newspaper The Sun.

"There is no dodging the possibility that all levels in the EFL, as well as the Premier League, will have to be cancelled and this season declared null and void because if the players can't play the games can't go ahead.

"The PL hopes that an interlude of three weeks from today will enable it to restart but that may well be dreamland. So what if the league cannot be finished? As games in both the PL and in the EFL are affected, the only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void.

"Who knows who would have gone down or come up if the games have not actually been played in full?

"A huge blow to Liverpool who might be robbed of their first title in 30 years. This will be discussed between the PL and the clubs next week at an emergency meeting."

Such a scenario appears unlikely, but whatever the authorities decide is likely to create a logistical nightmare.
