Organisers of the Arabian Gulf League have denied a report that the 2019/20 season will not restart until September. A report during the weekend claimed the competition, suspended on March 15 because of the coronavirus crisis, would not be able to resume during the next few months, as had been previously suggested. However, the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) denied the rumours late on Sunday, saying no decision had yet been made regarding the remainder of the season. The campaign was postponed last month after Round 19, meaning there remain seven rounds left to play. Shabab Al Ahli Dubai currently lead the standings. The UAE Pro League, who oversee the competition, are considering a number of options and will take a decision only after consultation with the relevant authorities as the UAE continues its attempts to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Some of the dates proposed for resumption include mid-May and the beginning of June, with a cancellation of the season said to be unlikely at present. Last week, the Football Association announced an extension to the March 15 suspension, which was initially put in place for four weeks, “until further notice”.
