Neil Warnock demands more fight from Cardiff City after Everton loss

Neil Warnock says he is not throwing the towel in on Cardiff City's Premier League survival hopes and only wants players willing to fight "in the trenches" for Saturday's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Gylfi Sigurdsson struck in each half before Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal deep into injury time secured the points for Everton at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday. It follows Friday's 5-1 humiliation at home to Watford that leaves the Welsh in deep relegation trouble.

Warnock was seething at the manner of the 3-0 Everton reverse and said there would be changes to his line-up for the weekend's trip to Molineaux.

"I know my team for the Wolves game and I want people who will be in the trenches because I was let down by one or two tonight," Warnock told reporters. "I'm not going to throw the towel in and I'll make sure we're ready."

After beating Bournemouth and Southampton in succession to lift themselves out of the relegation zone following the death of new signing Emiliano Sala in a plane crash last month, Cardiff have now lost two matches in a row.

"We've got to make our own luck," Warnock added. "We've got 10 games left, difficult games, and people will probably be rubbing their hands now at playing us, but as I've said to the lads we're not going down without a fight."

Marco Silva said he hopes Everton have found a turning point in their season after ending a three-match losing streak.

Silva's position as Everton manager had come under scrutiny following a run of five defeats in six games in all competitions but the Portuguese hopes Tuesday's win will bring about renewed confidence in his squad ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby against league leaders Liverpool.

"We have been missing some consistency as a team and have lost confidence," the Portuguese said. "We have been up and down many times. One of the things I want is more consistency."

Looking ahead of Sunday's match at Goodison Park, Silva added: "We now have a special match for our fans and hope to give them a good feeling.

"Sunday is a really important game. But it will be a different game in front of our fans and we expect a fantastic atmosphere."

Sigurdsson's brace saw him become the highest-scoring Icelandic player in Premier League history.

The 29-year-old playmaker has now scored 57 top-flight goals, two more than former Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea favourite Eidur Gudjohnsen.
