The English top-flight has returned – we take a look at who did what

PREMIER LEAGUE WEEK 1 ROUND-UP: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 - Fulham 0 Arsenal 3 (Lacazette 8', Gabriel 49', Aubameyang 57'): MIkel Arteta's side kicked-off the new season with a comprehensive win over newly promoted Fulham. Former Chelsea winger Willian assisted all three goals while Gabriel, another summer signing, scored on his debut. Attackers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng opened and completed the scoring. EPA

Crystal Palace 1 (Zaha 13') Southampton 0: The Eagles put their woeful end to last season behind them with a hard-fought win over Southampton, the winner coming courtesy of Wilfried Zaha's early strike. The Saints, though, will be frustrated to come away with nothing but found Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita in great form. His flying save to keep out a Danny Ings header late-on denied Southampton a point. PA

Liverpool 4 (Salah pen 4', 33 & pen 88', Leeds United 3 (Harrison 12', Bamford 30', Kilch 66'): An absolute cracker at Anfield where the newly crowned champions were given a real scare by Marcelo Bielsa's top-flight newcomers. Three times Liverpool took the lead and three times Leeds fought back to level the score. But the ruthless Mohamed Salah proved the difference and his last-gasp penalty - his second spot kick of the game - secured his hat-trick and the points for Jurgen Klopp's side. EPA.

West Ham United 0 Newcastle United 2 (Wilson 56', Hendrick 87'): Newcastle's new signings enjoyed excellent debuts at the London Stadium. Striker Callum Wilson opened the scoring and was a constant threat, while midfielder Jeff Henrick provided an assist and thumped home a fine finish to seal the points. Jamal Lewis also played his part at left-back. A miserable start for David Moyes whose side, while hitting the woodwork twice in the first half, looked off the pace. PA

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 - West Bromwich Albion 0 v Leicester City 3 (Castagne 56', Vardy pen 74' & pen 84'): New campaign, same old Jamie Vardy at the Hawthorns as last season's golden boot winner fired home a second-half penalty double to seal the points for Brendan Rodgers' side. Full-back Timothy Castagne, a replacement for Ben Chilwell who moved to Chelsea, opened the scoring just before the hour mark. An early sign that Slaven Bilic's newly promoted Baggies face a battle to stay up. Reuters

Tottenham Hotspur 0 Everton 1 (Calvert-Lewin 55'): New-look Everton thoroughly deserved their victory at Goodison Park, courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin's excellent second-half header. Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez all enjoyed encouraging debuts. A poor start for Spurs whose manager, Jose Mourinho, called into question the mentality of his players after the game, saying some had “a wrong state of mind” and were guilty of being "lazy". EPA

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 - Sheffield United 0 Wolves 2 (Jimenez 3', Saiss 6'): Wolves were certainly quick out of the blocks at Bramall Lane with Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss putting them two up within six minutes. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo celebrated signing a new contract in style and said he felt Wolves were building "something really special" at the club. The Blades, on the other hand, looked sluggish after the success of last season's top-half finish. PA

Brighton 1 (Trossard 54') Chelsea 3 (Jorginho pen 23', James 56, Zouma 66'): Frank Lampard's big-spending Blues got off to a winning start - but were made made to fight all the way by Brighton. Jorginho's trademark hop, skip and shoot penalty put Chelsea ahead but they were pegged back by Leandro Trossard's finish that squirmed past keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. A Reece James thunderbolt and deflected Kurt Zouma shot sealed the points. AFP

The Premier League was back this week, just 48 days after the last one finished.

After last season's pause due to the coronavirus and the resulting late finish to the campaign, the great and the good of the English top-flight found themselves back in action in double-quick time.

Saturday's opening round of games saw Arsenal, Crystal Palace, champions Liverpool and Newcastle United all record victories, over Fulham, Crystal Palace, Leeds and West Ham, respectively.

On Sunday, Leicester ran out convincing winners at West Bromwich Albion, while Everton sealed a deserved three points at Tottenham.

Monday saw Wolves and Chelsea start with a bang after defeating Sheffield United and Brighton, respectively.
