Kai Havertz ended his troubled first campaign at Chelsea as the hero as they won the Champions League at the expense of Manchester City in Portugal. The German forward, who has struggled with illness, injury and poor form since his big-money signing last summer, struck the decisive goal in the first half of the final. Three minutes before half time, Mason Mount played an incisive pass through the centre of the City defence. Havertz raced on to the ball, skipped past Ederson, and placed the ball into the empty net. City lost their captain Kevin De Bruyne to injury after a clash of heads with Antonio Rudiger after the break, and they were unable to find an equaliser.
