Brendan Rodgers hailed his "outstanding" Leicester City team after Jamie Vardy's penalty earned them a 1-0 victory over Wolves to maintain their excellent start to the Premier League season. With a third straight win, Leicester went top of the table and will remain there for the upcoming international break after Liverpool could only draw with Manchester City later on Sunday. The winner came from a moment of controversy after Max Kilman handled Dennis Praet’s ball into the box. Referee Anthony Taylor initially remained unmoved but after checking his monitor awarded the penalty and Vardy beat Rui Patricio from the spot in the 15th minute. Wolves argued the ball came at Kilman too quickly and from only as few metres away but the appeals were ignored. Vardy wasted a chance to double the lead from another penalty before half-time. Rayan Ait-Nouri’s bad touch allowed James Justin to steal in and he was brought down in the area by the defender. But Vardy’s penalty was blocked by Patricio's diving save with the rebound hitting the striker and dropping wide. After the match, Rodgers said: "Everything about the game was very, very good and should have been more than one goal up. "We had to show resilience in the second half when Wolves had more of the ball. Kapser [Schmeichel] made an amazing save and Harvey [Barnes] misses a chance to close the game out. "Nine wins out of 11 shows the mentality of the team. Our football was outstanding against a very good side."
