English football columnist Richard Jolly names his Best XI in the Premier League for the November 8-9 weekend.
Goalkeeper: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa). Made a brilliant late save from West Ham’s Andy Carroll to keep a clean sheet and ensure Villa did not suffer a seventh successive defeat.
Right-back: Daryl Janmaat (Newcastle United). The Dutchman set up both of Newcastle’s goals at West Bromwich Albion with fine crosses.
Centre-back: Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United). Out of form earlier in the season, the Argentine is now a commanding figure at the back and also scored on Sunday.
Centre-back: Jason Shackell (Burnley). A defiant figure in defence as Burnley ended their long wait for a victory. The captain was admirably solid.
Left-back: Luke Shaw (Manchester United). Ventured forward enthusiastically in perhaps his best performance in a United shirt as Crystal Palace were beaten.
Right midfield: Shane Long (Southampton). His wait for a first goal with his new club ended, with emphasis, as he scored two in his cameo appearance against Leicester.
Centre midfield: Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea). Scored an exquisite free kick to begin the Swansea fightback against Arsenal and maintain his own fine form.
Centre midfield: Nemanja Matic (Chelsea). A dominant figure in the midfield and perhaps the best player on the pitch as Chelsea won at Anfield.
Left midfield: Jefferson Montero (Swansea). The Ecuadorian gave Arsenal a torrid time and set up Bafetimbi Gomis’s winner with a fine cross.
Centre forward: Bojan Krkic (Stoke). The former Barcelona man scored a stylish first goal for Stoke to set them on their way to victory at Tottenham.
Centre forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City). The most devastating striker in England at the moment scored twice to save his side from defeat at QPR.
