Queens Park Rangers
Queens Park Rangers announced on Monday that they have signed holding midfielder Sandro from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year deal.
QPR did not disclose the transfer fee for the Brazil international, 25, but British media reports put it at around £10 million (Dh60.9m).
The move reunites Sandro with QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who brought him to England from Brazilian side Internacional four years ago during his time in charge at Tottenham.
“Sandro’s a proper footballer and a top-class professional – he’s an absolutely fantastic signing for us. I couldn’t be more pleased,” Redknapp told the QPR website.
“He brings energy, aggression, power and quality. They call him the Beast. He’s not only a top-quality footballer, but a fantastic boy as well. He’ll lead by example for us.”
Sandro, who has been capped 17 times by Brazil, said: “I like new challenges and this is one I’m really looking forward to. Working with Harry again, who I share a great relationship with, is very special to me.”
QPR also announced a loan move for Dynamo Kiev midfielder Niko Kranjcar – the fourth time the Croatia international has been signed by Redknapp.
West Ham United
French midfielder Morgan Amalfitano signed for West Ham on Monday from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille where he had fallen out of favour with Argentinian coach Marcelo Bielsa.
The 29-year-old – capped once by France – has already experienced Premier League football having gone on loan to West Bromwich Albion last season scoring four goals in 28 appearances.
However, while he returned to Marseille in the close season he had a very public falling out with Bielsa – the fiery Argentine calling a halt to a training session prematurely after Amalfitano turned up having been told to stay away – and his only hope for playing this season was a move away.
“Olympique Marseille and West Ham have reached an agreement on Monday evening for the transfer of midfielder Morgan Amalfitano,” Marseille announced on their website without disclosing the length of the contract or the transfer fee.
Southampton
Southampton have signed Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan and Senegalese winger Sadio Mane from Red Bull Salzburg.
Alderweireld, who can play at right-back and centre-back, won La Liga with Atletico last season and played in their Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.
The terms of his deal reportedly include an option for Southampton to make the move permanent for a fee of around EU€8m (Dh38.5m).
The 25-year-old has won 37 international caps for Belgium and was a member of the team that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil.
“I am delighted that we have been able to bring Toby to the club,” said Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.
“He is a strong defender and is also very good at building up the play when we play out from the back.
“He played in the top league in Spain and against top teams in Europe, so he has a lot of confidence and experience, and he has a big future because he is still young.”
Alderweireld began his professional career at Dutch giants Ajax and spent nine years at the Amsterdam club, winning three Eredivisie titles and one Dutch Cup.
He told the Southampton website: “I’m very happy to be here.
“I think this is an upcoming club. Southampton put a lot of effort in to get me, so now I want to give something back to the club by doing my best to help the team. I want to give everything for Southampton.”
Mane, 22, has signed a four-year deal and is thought to have cost Southampton around £10m.
Koeman said of Mane: “He can play in different positions in attack – he can play on the left or right side and also at number nine.
“It is incredible how many goals he has scored from his position, and I hope that he will do the same for us.”
Sunderland
Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates joined Sunderland on a season-long loan on Monday, while the club also landed Inter Milan midfielder Ricardo Alvarez for the rest of the campaign.
Uruguay international Coates had struggled to earn playing time at Anfield and Sunderland manager Gus Poyet snapped up his compatriot before the transfer window closed until January.
The 23-year-old – who sprang to prominence in the Uruguay side that won the 2011 Copa America – made only 24 appearances, with just six starts in the Premier League, during his three years with Liverpool.
“Defender Sebastian Coates has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Liverpool,” a Sunderland statement confirmed.
Poyet also completed his loan move for Argentina international Alvarez, who has scored 14 goals in 90 appearances for Inter.
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a great opportunity, a great club and I’m looking forward to playing in England and playing my part for Sunderland,” Alvarez said.
Crystal Palace
Neil Warnock had said he wanted four fresh faces in on Monday, in the end he settled for three. Tottenham’s Zeki Fryers and Wigan’s James McArthur both signed three-year deals, while the club just about managed to complete the loan signing of Kevin Doyle from Wolves until January, with Glenn Murray signing for Championship side Reading until January.
Warnock paid a reported club-record £7m to land McArthur as he bolstered his squad for the expected fight against relegation.
Arsenal
Arsenal’s Japan midfielder Ryo Miyaichi joined Dutch side FC Twente on loan for the rest of the season on Monday.
Miyaichi has made only six appearances for Arsenal since joining the Premier League club in January 2011 and his move to Twente will be the fourth loan spell of his Gunners career.
Stoke City
Morocco winger Oussama Assaidi has rejoined Stoke City on a season-long loan from Liverpool, the Britannia Stadium club announced on Monday.
Assaidi spent last season on loan at Stoke, scoring five goals in 25 appearances, and they have spent a reported loan fee of £1m to bring him back to the club.
“Ozzy was someone we were interested in earlier in the window, so we’re delighted with that,” Stoke manager Mark Hughes told Sky Sports News.
“You never give up on these things. There was still an opportunity, so we’re delighted to get it over the line.”
Hull City
Hull were the most active Premier League club on transfer deadline day with Abel Hernandez, Mohamed Diame, Gaston Ramirez and late arrival Hatem Ben Arfa all moving to the KC Stadium.
Manager Steve Bruce started by bringing in Hernandez from Palermo in a club record deal thought to total £9.5m, added fellow Uruguay international Ramirez on a season-long loan from Southampton and also persuaded West Ham midfielder Diame to pen a £3.5m deal.
But Bruce finished with a flourish in the move for out of favour playmaker Ben Arfa.
“Thankfully everything has come together, but the one that has come in the last few hours was Ben Arfa,” Bruce told BBC Radio Five Live.
Tottenham Hotspur
Lewis Holtby has left the north London club to join Hamburg on loan for the season although Spurs have boosted their midfield numbers with the signing of Benjamin Stambouli from Montpellier.
Aston Villa
