Eden Hazard has faith in Chelsea squad depth to 'win as many trophies as possible'

Belgian winger is set to make his return for the Premier League champions after a lengthy spell out with an ankle injury.

Eden Hazard is confident Chelsea have enough strength in depth to compete in multiple competitions following an off-season that has seen the Premier League champions miss out on a number of transfer targets.

Chelsea's frustrations in the transfer market played out right until Thursday's deadline as the London club saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain prefer a move to Liverpool, Fernando Llorente opt for Tottenham Hotspur, and Ross Barkley choose to remain at Everton.

Earlier in the summer, Chelsea were beaten to the signature of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku by Manchester United, while Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci picked AC Milan over a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have managed to push through a number of deals, with the likes of German defender Antonio Rudiger, French midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, and club record signing Alvaro Morata all arriving. Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta also arrived on deadline day to bolster the squad.

However, with Nemanja Matic departing for United, John Terry released, Diego Costa banished from the first team squad, and a number of players sent out on loan, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is concerned about a lack of squad depth - something that was not exposed last season due to a lack of European football.

Hazard, though, believes Chelsea are well-equipped and capable of mounting a defence of their Premier League title while being competitive in the Uefa Champions League.

"I think this year will be no different from the previous years, in the sense that every year it is difficult - especially when you play in many competitions," Hazard, 26, said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

"This year we have the Champions League as well and it is not easy to succeed in multiple competitions, but we will do our best and we have got depth in our squad so sometimes maybe one or two players can rest so they are 110 per cent for the next competition.

"We just want to win as many trophies as possible. For me personally I haven't won the Champions League so maybe that one would be a little bit more special, but I would prefer us to win everything."

Following what has been perceived as a summer of discontent, uncertainty surrounded the future of Conte, whose position became even more fragile after the opening day defeat to Burnley, although the scrutiny has eased somewhat after successive wins over Tottenham and Everton.

And Hazard is convinced Conte will lead Chelsea to more success during his time at the club.

"You know on the bench, he has got a lot of energy moving along the sidelines and shouting instructions, but I think we need this personality in the squad to win football games," he said. "I think we have got one of the best managers in the world. So we are really happy with him."

Hazard is yet to feature for Chelsea this season having been sidelined with an ankle injury, although he made a goal-scoring return for Belgium in the 9-0 win over Gibraltar. He could be set to make his club return on Saturday when Chelsea travel to Leicester City.
