Ferran Torres (for Foden, 80), N/R – Not enough time to impact the game with City already two up. PA
BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH RATINGS: Yann Sommer, 6 – For all the possession Manchester City had, Sommer had a quiet evening. Admittedly he conceded twice, but this wasn’t helped by the poor marking from Borussia’s defence who gifted City numerous free shooting opportunities. AP
Matthias Ginter, 5 – Reasonable defending initially amid an onslaught of attacks down the right hand by City and Foden especially. Struggled to move possession out of the hosts’ half due to the visitors’ high press that was expertly led by the hard-working Silva. Reuters
Denis Zakaria, 5 – A performance that mirrored the efforts of Ginter to his left – initially he played strongly as City dominated. But as Borussia flopped in their attempts to establish a foothold in the game, so did Zakaria. AP
Nico Elvedi, 4 – Didn’t show much urgency to try and win possession when dangerous balls were whipped into the hosts’ penalty area. This trait particularly stood out in the build up to City’s first goal when Silva was granted a free header yards from Sommer’s goalmouth. A disappointing performance. EPA
Ramy Bensebaini, 4 – Performance nosedived rather suddenly after initial promise where he made a crucial challenge on Sterling who was through on goal at a tight angle. Gambled with some hard challenges from then, but sloppy passing and poor marking summed up the defender’s game. Reuters
Jonas Hofmann, 4 – Appeared to be hopelessly chasing shadows in both halves and couldn’t match the visitors’ pace, tempo and accuracy. Biggest involvement in the game came when rather dramatically appealing for a penalty following a soft shove. EPA
Christoph Kramer, 4 – One of few Borussia players that didn’t panic in possession, but punted an awful ball forward that was simply cut out and led to City’s opening goal that was comfortably nodded in by Silva. AFP
Florian Neuhaus, 6 – Stood tall against City’s dominant attack and won all tackles he attempted. Just needed more composure in possession. PA
Stefan Lainer, 5 – Dealt with the threat of Raheem Sterling well when he was eventually switched to the left side. But ultimately time on the ball was at a premium, and when Lainer did hold possession he was too often closed down quickly and effectively. AFP
Lars Stindl, 4 – Found the going extremely tough against an in-form City side. Lost possession too often that severely impacted the hosts’ ability to challenge Ederson’s net. Adopted a more attacking role when Plea left play but to no great effect. EPA
Alassane Plea, 5 – Made a couple of smart runs, but lost possession on too many occasions when Borussia did threaten. No shots registered on or off target. AFP
SUBS: Valentino Lazaro (for Lainer, 62), 5 – Had no impact but cannot be the sole blame for Borussia’s failed response in the second half. PA
Marcus Thuram (for Plea, 62), 5 – Outnumbered up front and couldn’t make an impression on Ederson. Getty
Breel Embolo (For Stindl, 75), N/R – Made no impact on City’s defence during the short time he featured. PA
Hannes Wolf (for Hofmann, 87), N/R – Registered the hosts’ only shot on target during the six minutes he was on the pitch. AFP
MANCHESTER CITY RATINGS: Ederson, 8 – Would have felt like a friendly game. Very rarely was he pressed by the hosts’ forwards who failed to register a single shot on target until the final kick, which he saved expertly. AFP
Joao Cancelo, 9 – An exceptional assist epitomised performance. He left City’s back four vulnerable when pressing into midfield, but this initial blip was soon eradicated. A quality cross picked Silva out for City’s opener before he delivered an equally accurate cross to tee up the visitors’ second. AFP
Aymeric Laporte, 8 – Had to stand tall when Plea attempted to make a number of reasonable runs through the visitors’ defence in the first half. Displayed great awareness to block out a number of attempted through balls and appeared to step up his game in comparison to previous performances. EPA
Ruben Dias, 8 – Continues to enjoy a fantastic first season with 40 appearances under his belt. Led the visitors’ defensive line with supreme confidence, it’s now more than 10 hours since City conceded in the Champions League. PA
Kyle Walker, 8 – Plea was perhaps the biggest threat for Borussia in the opening minutes, but Walker kept the forward at bay – most notably when cutting out a dangerous cross on 18 minutes. Cleared possession efficiently and enjoyed moving play forward down the right side with the support of Sterling. Reuters
Phil Foden, 7 - Linked up well with Bernardo Silva in the game’s opening minutes as City dominated play on the left side before he switched to the right. Was able to move possession around comfortably as City controlled possession. PA
Rodrigo, 8 - Excellent switch passing and possessed fantastic vision to pull off a number of creative passes from midfield. Won possession back well in the heart of the visitors’ midfield. AFP
Ilkay Gundogan, 7 - Made a real nuisance of himself by arriving late into the penalty area amid City’s efforts to move possession forward. EPA
Bernardo Silva, 8 – Covered an outstanding area of ground and was City’s hardest working player. Linked up well with Foden initially and bagged a goal and an assist from Cancelo’s superb crosses. Reuters
Gabriel Jesus, 7 – Squandered a golden opportunity to double City’s lead when going one-on-one with Sommer early in the second half. Redeemed himself when poking home a simple tap-in from close range to put the game’s result beyond doubt. Reuters
Raheem Sterling, 6 – Wasn’t playing his best in the opening minutes when on the left side of City’s front three. His performance was reflected when Guardiola tweaked the’ attacking shape which led to their first goal. AFP
SUBS: Riyad Mahrez (for Sterling, 69), 6 – Will be disappointed to have been dropped to the bench and his involvement was minimal. EPA
Sergio Aguero (For Jesus, 80), N/R – A great amount of vision in the few minutes he played. A first appearance since January 3. AFP
