Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires, it was announced by club and player on Monday. Aguero has spent 10 years at City, following his 2011 move from Atletico Madrid and has established himself as one of the club's greatest ever players. The Argentine striker has been instrumental in the most successful period in the club's history, firing the goals that have led to four Premier League titles, five League Cups, and an FA Cup. More silverware looks set to follow, with City 14 points clear at the top of the league standings, in the Champions League quarter-finals, and with a League Cup final against Tottenham on April 25. Aguero will leave City as the club's all-time record goalscorer. At the time of the announcement, the Argentine has scored 257 goals in 384 appearances for the club. Fitness problems have been a fairly regular hindrance over the past few years and this season he has been so far limited to 14 appearances due to knee and hamstring injuries and the coronavirus. However, Aguero, who will turn 33 in June, is sure to attract interest from clubs keen to take advantage of a free transfer bargain. So where could he end up? Here are five destinations that make sense. The Spanish giants have immediately been mentioned as favourites to sign Aguero this summer. It is a move that makes plenty of sense. Barcelona are struggling financially, so the chance to sign a proven goalscorer on a free transfer will surely appeal. Indeed, a proven goalscorer, beyond Lionel Messi, is something Barca have missed since Luis Suarez left last summer. Signing Aguero could prove a double win for Barcelona. The Manchester City striker is close friends with Messi, so his arrival could convince the club's captain and best player to extend his stay at the Camp Nou. Major League Soccer has been touted as a potential destination for Aguero for some time and an American club could seize the opportunity to make a lucrative offer to the Argentine striker. Moving to Tinseltown, with either Los Angeles FC or LA Galaxy, could appeal to Aguero, who would become the latest high-profile footballer to take his talents to the United States. However, if the chance to remain at a big club in Europe presents itself, would an MLS team have the pulling power to convince Aguero to essentially call time on his top level career? Probably unlikely at this stage, but the MLS looks a likely destination at some point. Similar to Barcelona, Juventus have been hit hard financially during the coronavirus pandemic and their dominant grip on Italian football has loosened this season. Changes are expected to be made in Turin this summer in an effort to both balance the books and refresh the playing squad. Reports claim Juventus are keen to pair Aguero with Cristiano Ronaldo next season while offloading the €45 million-rated Paulo Dybala. Such a scenario would help address both issues by boosting the club coffers and refreshing the squad with a player that, when fit, guarantees goals. Talks are reportedly ongoing over a contract extension for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but if the Swede does not agree new terms beyond the end of this season, an approach for Aguero would make sense. AC Milan, second in Serie A, are enjoying a resurgence and if they maintain their top four position will be able to offer Aguero Champions League football next season. However, it feels as though any potential approach would be dependent on the Ibrahimovic situation. PSG have also been mentioned in the media as interested in signing Aguero this summer, with reports claiming Mauricio Pochettino is keen to take the Argentine to Paris as a back-up to Kylian Mbappe. Indeed, Mbappe's PSG future is far from certain, with the French star approaching the final year of his contract, so if he does leave this summer, the Ligue 1 champion's interest in Aguero could intensify.
