Construction work at Real Madrid’s historic Santiago Bernabeu has picked up pace, making the most of the break in football in Spain. AS published images from inside the venue with most of the seating removed. According to the report, Real are set to play the remainder of the season – if and when that happens – at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium in Valdebebas. Marca reported that the club are looking to install retractable grass pitches within the stadium which will allow the surface to be removed within a few minutes. The grand plans include several plates beneath the pitch which will retract into a “green house” cave. The new system should create ideal conditions for the grass, maintaining an optimum balance between humidity and sunlight. All these are part of a bigger plan to convert the Bernabeu into a multi-purpose stadium, which can be used for other events like concerts. Plans are on to make the venue operational for 300 days a year. Above is a picture gallery of the renovation work at the Bernabeu. To view the next image, click on the arrows or simply swipe.
