EVERTON RATINGS: Jordan Pickford 7: Saved powerful Joelinton strike just before half-hour but Wilson poked home rebound. Brilliant stop from Willock volley in 70th minute. Left helpless, particularly by Wilson's stunning curler, as Newcastle ran riot with three goals in nine minutes. AFP

Ben Godfrey 3: In for the suspended Mason Holgate at right-back, but caught out in crucial moments. Skinned by Joelinton ahead of Wilson’s opener. Same story as Willock left him for dead ahead of Joelinton scoring second. Isak did same to set-up fourth for Murphy. AP

Michael Keane 6: One of the four Everton players tormented by Isak ahead of the fourth goal. Had great opportunity to put ball into box with teammates waiting in 53rd and score at just 1-0 but horribly sliced ball over bar. Had been solid, though, until team’s late collapse. AP

James Tarkowski 6: Comedy moment in first half when he brilliantly dispossessed Almiron only to pass the ball straight out for throw-in. Superb block at start of second to stop goal-bound Willock shot. Challenge on Longstaff in box, though, could easily have resulted in Newcastle penalty. AP

Vitalli Mykolenko 7: Ukrainian left-back flung himself in desperate lunge on Wilson but couldn’t stop striker putting Newcastle in front. Did well up against the dangerous Almiron. Reuters

Amadou Onana 6: Part of a physical Everton midfield three who came out of the blocks fast and hard but ran out of energy in second half. Booked five minutes before break for blatant shirt-pull on Guimaraes. AP

Idrissa Gueye 6: Drilled game’s first shot after eight minutes straight at Pope then curled a free-kick dangerous position well soon after. Never gave Newcastle’s midfielders a moment’s peace with chasing and harrying but, like rest of teammates, could not prevent second-half capitulation. Getty

Abdoulaye Doucoure 6: Midfielder back from suspension and at the heart of Everton’s intense early pressing on Newcastle, and particularly Guimaeres. Influence and dominance waned as match went on. Getty

Alex Iwobi 6: Started to frustrate home fans with erratic crossing as first-half went on. Fine run down right after break, brushing off Targett and setting up chance for Calvert-Lewin. PA

NEWCASTLE RATINGS: Nick Pope 7: Not tested in first half bar a few shots straight at him from distance, although was beaten by Calvert-Lewin finish but striker had been caught offside. Saved well from same player after break. Will be disappointed when McNeil’s corner flew straight into net. Getty

Kieran Trippier 7: Captain was left hobbling around pitch by Mykolenko challenge just before half-time but able to continue and help guide his team to seventh victory in eight games. PA

Fabian Schar 8: Another fine game in what has been an excellent season from Swiss centre-back whose partnership with Botman is bedrock to Newcastle's season. Scored with superb curling finish only for teammate Burn to be given offside. Reuters

Sven Botman 8: Dutchman never got flustered up against a physical opponent in Calvert-lewin and an aggressive Everton team in general. Quality once again and made some timely challenges and stood up to Everton pressure in first half.

Matty Targett 7: A rare start for the left-back ahead of Dan Burn and provided tidy ball down touchline for Joelinton in run-up to Wilson goal. Yellow card in second half for trying and failing to haul down Iwobi. PA

Sean Longstaff 7: Geordie midfielder felt he should have been awarded a second-half penalty after a reckless lunge by Tarkowski but referee and VAR were not having it. Annoyed home players and fans for twice going down injured following the tackle. AFP

Bruno Guimaraes 8: Put under intense pressure by Everton the second he gained possession but still able to show off his quality passing skills. Driving run and pass to earn assist for Wilson’s second. Reuters

Joe Willock 8: Denied certain goal just after half-time by Tarkowski block. Superb technique to send curling volley towards goal only for Pickford to produce equally good stop. Surging run and cross minutes later to find Joelinton who headed home. AFP

Joelinton 8: Excellent surging run past Godfrey followed by shot that was saved by Pickford only for Wilson to finish. Headed home second for his second goal in successive games. Getty

Miguel Almiron 6: Paraguayan winger back in starting XI but never looked like adding to his 11 goals this season. Usual busy self but no major impact. Getty

Callum Wilson 9: Poacher’s goal in the box after Joelinton’s shot, which had been Newcastle’s first of the game, was parried out by keeper. Sensational curling finish to make it 3-0 and overtakes Almiron as Newcastle’s top scorer this season with 13 goals. Getty

SUBS: Jacob Murphy (On for Almiron 68’) 7: Scored two against Spurs at weekend and tapped home another here after wonderful run by fellow substitute Iask. Should have made it 5-1 but fired great chance over. PA

Newcastle United maintained their push for a Champions league spot next season by thrashing relegation-haunted Everton 4-1 on Thursday.

The Mapgies, who stuck six past Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, withstood early Everton pressure and took a first-half lead through Callum Wilson's 28th-minute finish after good work by Joelinton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin thought he had levelled the scores just before the break after finishing well over Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope but had been caught offside.

The game remained 1-0 until the 72nd minute when the Magpies scored three goals in nine minutes, the first coming after Joelinton headed home following a fine run and cross from Joe Willock.

Wilson then added his second three minutes later with a superb curling finish past Jordan Pickford's despairing dive in the Everton goal.

Dwight McNeil then pulled one back for the Merseysiders direct from a corner but one minute later Jacob Murphy blasted home from close-range after an incredible mazy run by fellow substitute Alexander Isak to restore Newcastle's three-goal lead.

The victory kept Newcastle in third spot in the Premier League, eight points clear of Spurs in fifth and having two games in hand on the London club.

Everton remain in desperate trouble with Sean Dyche's side second from bottom and two points shy of safety with five games left to play.

Barring a disastrous late-season collapse, Newcastle will return to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years next season.
