A Harry Kane penalty helped Tottenham Hotspur move up to fourth in the table after a nervy <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/football/2022/05/15/harry-kane-penalty-moves-spurs-into-top-four-in-race-for-champions-league/" target="_blank">1-0 victory at home to Burnley </a>on Sunday. The England captain fired home from the spot after Ashley Barnes had been penalised for handball after a VAR intervention. There was no repeat of the raucous atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that saw Antonio Conte's men <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/football/2022/05/13/tottenham-vs-arsenal-player-ratings-son-9-kane-9-holding-1-saka-5/" target="_blank">beat Arsenal on Thursday</a> but the three points were all that mattered at Spurs now lead their north London rivals by two points. The Gunners face a tricky fixture away trip to Newcastle United on Monday night. Burnley, meanwhile, stay 17th and could drop into the relegation zone later on Sunday depending on other results. The Clarets were left fuming at the penalty decision that came in first-half injury time after what had been a disciplined defensive performance The ball struck Barnes on the arm which had been well away from his body at point of contact and VAR asked referee Kevin Friend to look at the incident on the pitchside monitor. Under current Premier League rules, a penalty had to be given and Kane made no mistake slotting into the bottom corner. Burnley were forced into a more attacking set-up after the break, with Kevin Long sending a header just wide of the target and Barnes hit the post with a powerful strike. But Mike Jackson's side were grateful to goalkeeper Nick Pope for keeping the score at 1-0 as the England goalkeeper twice saved brilliantly from Son Heung-min.
