  BURNLEY RATINGS: Nick Pope 5 – Went the wrong way for both penalties, diving to his right both times. Made a good save in the second half to deny Richarlison. Getty

  James Tarkowski 7 – Looked strong when cleaning up at the back, usually in the right place at the right time, but it was a piece of skill, and strength, that led to him freeing Taylor on the left-hand side ahead of the equaliser. Getty

  Charlie Taylor 5 – Often found himself overloaded on Everton’s right, with Gordon’s pace causing him problems. However, when he did get forward, he looked dangerous, and it was his pace, and from his cross, that Burnley levelled. Action Images

  Aaron Lennon 6 – Was caught out of position a number of times by Mykolenko and, as a result, on one occasion, he brought down the Ukrainian to gift the visitors a second penalty. Worked hard, though. AFP

  Ashley Westwood 5 – Had the first chance of the game, but his curled effort finished just wide of the post. He was then punished soon after for bringing down Gordon in the area, from which Everton levelled. AFP

  Maxwel Cornet 8 – Scored the winner with a neat finish from Vydra’s cut back. Worked hard defensively when Burnley were forced to recover when Everton hit on the counter, and he put his body on the line. Managed to get round Kenny on one occasion and his pullback caused panic. Getty

  Wout Weghorst 5 – His best effort was a fierce effort that was deflected over the bar, though the referee awarded a goal kick. Action Images

  Jay Rodriguez 6 – A quiet evening for the forward. He had been busier in his own half than Everton’s in the first 45 before he burst into life – being at the right place at the right time – in the second half. Showed excellent movement to hammer home Taylor’s cross. Getty

  EVERTON RATINGS: Jordan Pickford 5 – Arguably should have done better to prevent Burnley’s opener, but his distribution was impressive throughout. Saved well from Cornet in the second half. Getty

  Mason Holgate 4 – Looked solid in the first half despite picking up an early booking, though he sometimes looked lost in the middle, like he was unsure of his role. Getty

  Ben Godfrey 4 – Had looked assured after a nervy start and looked to have formed a reasonably solid partnership with Branthwaite. Made a good driving run as the game stretched in the last 20 minutes but was guilty of a horrendous clearance that Vydra punished by cutting back to Cornet for the winner. Reuters

  Jarrad Branthwaite 6 – The youngster looked impressive in Michael Keane’s enforced absence. Added a physical presence to Everton’s backline. Came close with a header in the second half. Reuters

  Jonjoe Kenny 4 – Came close with a cross-shot that almost embarrassed Nick Pope, then moments later was beaten by Taylor who crossed for the equaliser. Caught out again later by Cornet. AFP

  Abdoulaye Doucoure 6 – Looked good on the ball though was sometimes guilty of slowing the play down. Getty

  Alex Iwobi 5 – Lost Collins for the opening goal and left him unmarked at the back post. Played better going forward and linked well with Richarlison, though was a bit of a headless chicken. Getty

  Vitaliy Mykolenko 5 – Quite often got the other side of Aaron Lennon and, on the second occasion, was brought down for Everton’s second penalty of the evening. Action Images

  Anthony Gordon 7 – A positive attacking presence who made a nuisance of himself on the right. He earned his side a penalty by forcing Westwood into committing a foul inside the area. AFP

  Richarlison 9 – A constant menace. He brought his side back into the game when he stroked home from the penalty spot. He scored a second penalty, displaying excellent calmness. Twice came close to a hat-trick in the second half. Easily Everton’s brightest spark throughout. PA

Everton plunged to within a point of the Premier League’s relegation zone after conceding in the 85th minute to lose 3-2 at Burnley in an entertaining end-to-end match on Wednesday.

Maxwel Cornet grabbed the winner for Burnley, who climbed above Watford into 18th place and within striking distance of overtaking Everton in 17th.

Two penalties before halftime by Brazil forward Richarlison helped Everton recover from conceding a 12th-minute opener to Nathan Collins at a corner, which was Burnley's first goal in five games.

Jay Rodriguez made it 2-2 in the 57th before substitute Matej Vydra crossed for Cornet to sweep in Burnley’s most important goal of the season.

It was a sixth straight away defeat in the league for Everton, who next face Manchester United, Leicester, Liverpool and Chelsea, and leaves scrutiny on manager Frank Lampard despite only taking over at the start of February.
