SPAIN RATINGS: Unai Simon - 5, Looked very awkward with both his hands and feet at times. Did well to come out and deny Kyian Mbappe after the ball was played behind but couldn’t get enough on Benzema’s shot to deny him before being sat down by Mbappe. AFP

Eric Garcia - 6, Did well to get back and stop Benzema rolling the ball into the net after Simon had been rounded, which was part of a strong performance in the first half. Couldn’t reach the ball to stop Mbappe running through for the goal after lunging in. AFP

Marcos Alonso - 6, Made a great interception to deny Benjamin Pavard’s pass but couldn’t keep his balance after getting behind the French defence. AP Photo

Gavi - 7, Committed some unnecessary fouls, but showed confidence on the ball and almost unlocked France’s defence after receiving the ball on the edge of the box. Did brilliantly with the ball in some tight areas. AFP

Sergio Busquets - 8, Made a strong tackle on Mbappe, did well positionally. Had good moments on the ball, playing a lovely ball through to Mikel Oyarzabal for the opener. EPA

Pablo Sarabia - 4, Hit a weak shot on the turn, then played a poor pass to Oyarzabal when the opportunity came to break. Did well to dispossess Jules Kounde but made a poor pass into the box. AFP

SUB: Yeremi Pino (Sarabia, 61’) - 6, Tried to make things happen and made some great runs but struggled to get a final shot off, with Lloris making a good save when he did. AP Photo

SUB: Koke (Gavi, 75’) – N/R, Saw his cross attempt ruled out by Aurelien Tchouameni and couldn’t get a hold on the midfield. AFP

SUB: Mikel Merino (Torres, 84’) – N/R, Oyarzabal should have done better after receiving a good pass from him, with Merino looking neat on the ball. AFP

Jules Kounde - 7, Looked strong in his defending throughout the first half, limiting Sarabia and making a great run back to deny his pass to Oyarzabal. In the second, he was let off after losing the ball in a dangerous area, then got himself booked. However, he got his head together and helped see out the game. Reuters

Raphael Varane - 5, Never quite looked himself, struggling to deal with Oyarzabal before being forced off through injury before half time. AFP

Presnel Kimpembe - 7, Made a couple of silly mistakes but recovered from them well. Looked fairly comfortable on the ball and put in a solid performance in the second half. AFP

Benjamin Pavard - 6, Committed a silly foul on Sarabia and wasn’t overly effective offensively. Was solid defensively most of the time he was on the pitch. AP Photo

Aurelien Tchouameni - 7, Took a couple of hard hits, but looked authoritative in the midfield and moved the ball well. Made a necessarily perfectly times tackle on Gavi in his own box. Reuters

Paul Pogba - 8, Played a superb pass through to Benzema and was brilliant in the buildup to Theo Hernandez hitting the crossbar. Booked for a foul on Busquets within seconds of the second half starting but his block and header in the final stages were vital to securing the win. AFP

Antoine Griezmann - 6, Took up clever positions to help his team defensively and linked play well at times but struggled to have much of an impact going forward. AFP

SUB: Dayot Upamecano (Varane, 42’) - 5, Was beaten one-on-one by Oyarzabal for the opener and took up questionable positions at times. Recovered to help France win the game. AFP

France won the Nations League on Sunday after coming from a goal down to beat Spain 2-1 in Milan.

Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe struck to claim the title for world champions France after Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead midway through the second half.

The win will ease some of the pain created by an early exit from Euro 2020 at the hands of Switzerland and highlighted just how powerful France are going forward.

Les Bleus came out on top of a match at the San Siro which came to life after Oyarzabal slid home the opener in the 64th minute.

As well as the two goals from their superstar attackers, France had other opportunities to score through Mbappe before a frantic finish in which Spain launched an assault on the French goal.

Didier Deschamps can thank Hugo Lloris the match didn't go into extra-time after the France captain pulled off a fine stoppage time save to deny Yeremi Pino a late leveller.

Earlier Italy took third place after beating Belgium 2-1 in Turin through goals form Nicolo Barella and Domenico Berardi.
